Should willfully ignorant people be allowed to vote

Its not going to happen. Your one shot went out the window when Obama was re-elected. I think God daily that Obama was re-elected. If Romney had won, he would have appointed right-wing activist judges that would have altered our Constitution for the next generation. Obama's re-election protects the balance on the court for the next generation...and if he gets more than two more appointments, he could protect it for generations to come.

So in other words - you don't want balance on the bench. You want judicial activism that will bend to your ultra-left policies.

Figures. I expect nothing less of you.

Should willfully ignorant people be allowed to vote? Or should voter be required to document that they have done a reasonable effort at researching candidates and issues to obtain a voter I.D.? Should equal use of both Democrat and Republican news sources be part of the definition of reasonable effort? Should people who are unemployed have to spend more time on research than the employed, to qualify as a reasonable effort? with each person's search documentation attached to their identity and subject to a challenge, and the way they voted remaining anonymous? Should we make it easier to obtain voter I.D. than it presently is, by eliminating proof of current residence as a requirement, which poses an unnecessary hardship on the poor and minorities?

Everybody is ignorant about something...and some... a lot of things. Apparently we aren't omni-potent beings.

That said:

Which political entity do you want to define "Ignorant" and then enact a voting law around that specific definition?

I hope so too. And I hope in defining "health of the mother" they take into account emotional health, that rape victims who have ended the rape pregnancy with an abortion, are 5 times more likely to commit suicide than rape victims who bring the baby to term, and women who are not rape victims, who have abortions, have an overall 3 times higher suicide risk than women who have given birth. It should also be taken into account how much lower the cancer rate is among women who have given birth than among women who have not, and how much longer the elderly live who have grandchildren than the elderly who do not.

No, not ignorance, WILLFUL ignorance. There's a difference between just being human ans as a result, not having all the answers, and being an irresponsible jerk, inflicting the results of one's vote on everyone else without trying to get any of the answers. No, not a political entity, schoolteachers, because determining whether a person is participating in their education, is within their professional expertise. Teachers of private schools only, so that they don't have the conflict of interest, of being government employees.

Teachers are best qualified to define a measurement of whether a person is participating in their own education. It's within their professional expertise. It should be done by teachers of private schools only, so that there's no conflict of interest.

I personally believe its the parents responsibility.

Never say never my left wing friend.

voters' parents should vouch for whether voters have made an effort to educate themselves of the candidates and issues? NO! 1) most of the well-informed voters have outlived their parents 2) most parents would just sign the note randomly upon request. 3) willfully ignorant voters usually learned how to be willfully ignorant from their parents.

I'd say that conservatives would have a problem with that...because most teachers are seen as liberals. So their definition and tests...might not be agreeable with the conservative public.

You are right I want a teacher to teach my children the 3 Rs reading, writting and arithmatic. Nothing else....

They'd be making the same definition of informing oneself, for everyone, so conservatives would be total asshats to make that objection.

You don't want a teacher teaching your child how to learn? That's so sad.

]If she/he can teach them the 3Rs which she/he is paid to do I will take care of the rest.........I don't want a teaccher teaching my children their personal politics, religion sex. For example if its and English teacher I want him or her to teach English not for who to vote for. We have had 4 children and that policy worked out fine....If you find that policy sad I am sorry.

I never advocated teachers teaching politics. good teachers teach children how to parrot information thrust at them, bad teachers teach children how to think and learn. evidently you have had bad teachers.

I think your idea might conflict with the Voting Rights Act. It's not against the law to be ignorant..willfully or not. If there was such a law...there wouldn't be enough jails.

you don't know the difference between being allowed to vote and being locked in jail?

Nope, I sent my kids to Catholic school for 12 years and they did just fine....I am giving you a hypothetical.......You don't want to use my actual children as and example because they all have college degrees, one is a PHD.

You do know a lot of teachers teach their personal beliefs right?

your hypothetical is way off topic, the question was who is best qualified to determine whether a person is actively seeking to educate themselves. If that's apolitical belief, it would be Democracy, not Democrat, by the way. Do your hypothetical offspring know the difference between a Democracy and a Democrat? Why don't you want to use your own children as an example? Are you afraid that your
PhD grown children would prove you wrong by opening up a dictionary to the definition of teacher and to the definition of democracy?

To people who would consider themselves being discriminated against...much like black were when given tests in order to vote...would most likely see themselves disenfranchised....and in sort of a social jail.

I am very sorry for the huge font..Having computer problems...think I have it resolved now.

Oh, an imaginary jail. don't worry, they have plenty of space, there's even imaginary jail planets on cartoon network. I'd love to chat with you about reality-based politics when you get back to reality.
