Excluding defense from spending cuts

Should defense programs be excluded from across-the-board spending cuts?

All you people that voted no you love being protected by our military but you hate to support it........Its almost like Viet Nam all over again.

I don't know what their budget is but at first Obama took 500 billion and then he wanted 500 billion more........Panetta then the SECDEF testified in congress and asked to cancel the second 500 billion....He said the military could not survive that cut but was turned down. It was televised on CSPAN about a month ago.

Well there's your problem, at least one of them...

Let me make this clear, the DoD budget has never been 1 trillion dollars, therefore its impossible for Obama to take 1 trillion dollars from it.

What possible reason am I going to hear as to why I'm wrong I have no idea, I can't even contemplate it, its going to be so God Damn stupid.

There's no such thing at "across the board" spending cuts. Libs will NEVER agree to cut a dime to their dependent class. If they couldn't give money to their constituents (the lazy, the whiners, the non-producers), not a single one would be elected as even a dog catcher.

Or maybe they recognized that it is possible to cut the military and still have a military able to do the job it is needed for. In fact, it is nothing at all like Vietnam. In fact military spending went up during most of the Vietnam war. Don't let the facts stand in your way though.

Obama hasn't offered to cut one cent from entitlements. So much for the Kool-Aid.

They could hardly be across the board cuts if they excluded a good half of the budget...

Then you misunderstood my vote and most likely many others as well. The July 2011 deal included military spending cuts on purpose to push the GOP into negotiations instead of just waiting for the changes they wanted anyway. So, the reason military spending should continue to be included is to, again, spur the GOP into doing the right thing and negotiating, which they have pretty much failed to do since at least July 2011 when this whole circus started. I think defense spending is very important but obviously the Republicans don't think it's worth the trouble.

Health care reform cuts the growth of medicare spending by $700 billion over 10 years, and the president supports extending SS retirement age to 70 and changing the way cost of living increases are computed with the effect of reducing future payments.

Why did Republicans vote unanimously last year to continue spending this year almost as much as the rest of the world combined on the military?

Absolutely not, I was talking with a friend who is a historian with what I consider an inordinate interest in military matters and even he admits we have to slash a major portion of the military budget to survive. We just don't need a military that large!
