Good thing we have the government to keep us safe from earbuds, baby formula and 7 year olds with Pop Tarts.

Omg, he is so stupid.

i saw in the article that he is doing an awareness campaign. is he also trying to ban something through legislation again?

needless to say, i'm not a fan of Bloomberg. he comes off as a nanny plutocrat.

Having different laws in every state for common products is getting way out of hand. Not only custom motor fuel blends, soda container sizes, headphones, radar detectors and who knows what things are illegal now or "CA ONLY" spec, like motorcycles, lawn equipment and cars. Seems as if you may soon travel out of state and get arrested for having an illegal toothbrush. Stop the madness! We will soon need national laws to require these weird state laws are posted at all state lines. Ignorance of the law is no excuse, but laws of the ignorant are popping up everywhere!

being treated like children... the American people will continue to act like children.

Funny that you should mention ignorance of the law

Bloomberg isn't proposing any new laws concerning ear buds. He's only running a campaign to warn people of the risks associated with listening to loud music on earbuds

Bloomberg is gping on another crusade to get rid of ear buds in nyc.Cranked-Up Earbuds Next On Mayor Bloomberg’s Health Hit List « CBS New York

The word "right" gets thrown around a lot. To the point that it has become nauseating when improperly used. As stupid as every crusade Bloomberg undertakes happens to be (this included), ear bud headphones aren't a right. He isn't even trying to ban anything for once.

All of that said, why anyone would step foot in NYC, let alone live there, is a mystery to me.

The problem is, given his history, it wouldn't surprise anyone if he did try to ban them.

Well it sounds like in this case, unlike his crusade against large sodas, it is only an information campaign. I don't think that is an intrusion on personal rights.

I agree as long as it's an information campaign, no problem. I didn't agree with his banning large sodas or with trying to get hospitals to lockup formula. That was going too far.

I cannot properly express my opinion of Bloomberg's nanny-state-ism without resorting to language that would shock a sailor.

I would not live in NYC for any sum of money. Place is going total police state.

Oops. I clicked yes on the poll. If he is trying to ban them it is an intrusion. If it is just an informational campaign then I don't have aproblem with it. Ear buds are just fine if you keep the volume down.

I like earbuds becasue I can wear just one bud at a time, so I can also hear what is going on around me, which makes listening to music while walking around in public much safer.

I feel like I just ran into 2006 again. Apple actually caught a lot of flack for reducing the volume output of its iPods in Europe, after receiving such demands from France.

Choe, who is not involved with the city effort, said the more expensive noise-cancelling headphones are better for the user’s hearing and are recommended for those who are listening to personal music devices while commuting.

Oh, ewwwww. You will not ruin my sound with that nonsense! I don't give a damn if you folks hear it, open cans rule (okay, traditional closed phones are nice too).

The audiologist said people standing nearby should not be able to hear what you are listening to in your headphones.

Depends on what you're wearing.

Yes, people hearing a great deal of what you're listening to is a big deal.

Here, not so much. The clue here is how it is constructed.

Just get some old rockers out there for the PR campaign and it'll be good.

Information campaign is fine. If you can make it geeky, rather than corny, do it. I'd rather have a rocker tell me how his ears are precious, and how he either screwed them up, or kept them safe. Talk about metaphorically good audio levels, talk metaphorically about bad sound levels. One I remember the audiophiles throwing out a while ago was, "Does it sound like you're right next to a lawnmower? If so, it's probably too loud."

No ****!

I was born in NYC and will never return.

Bloomie is a control freak clown, and can kiss my ass.

I have been listening to loud rock music for years with no problems.

It is an embarrassment that New Yorkers actually take his ****.

i've been standing in front of a drum kit for 15 years now. i'm very glad to still have full hearing. switched to in-ear a couple years back; hopefully that helped. maybe i qualify, lol.

I've been using ear buds for work. I wonder if I should switch to ear phones instead? If there's any background noise in my house, I tend to turn up the volume pretty loud, and of course I listen to loud music a lot too. I'm probably going to be deaf soon. At least it won't affect me here.

what?

WHAT??!!

I'd say get what's enjoyable, and of course, what's in the budget.

When I made my "step up" to better stuff, it wasn't to IEM, but rather to larger headphones. On the first point IEMs were much more expensive for my wee budget.

On the second point, I didn't like the feeling of the flanges going deep in my ear. Granted the sound was cool, but it just felt...not for me. Now, I spent about 50-60 bucks on some headphones from Sennheisier, going for the recommended starter cans (which at the time were the HD-497) but contemplated going with the Grado SR60. Either way, it was good stuff.

Of course, once I got started, I couldn't stop. And it got more expensive.

The Sennheiser HD-600 that was the second headphone I posted earlier in the thread...and these beauties. Paired with a full desktop headphone amplifier as well, naturally.

I resent any and all public officials telling me what is in my best interest. The same people who tell us not to smoke, drink or take drugs quite happily send us marching off to war.

Keep off the grass!:mrgreen::roll:

I never heard of ear buds before this but I do wear ear muffs with a built in radio when I work in my sawmill. Sometimes I have the music so loud I wonder if I am doing more damage with the ear protection than I would get from the sawmill noise itself
