We're actually looking at Belize, Ecuador, and Mexico for our retirement...
I don't often change my signature, but this was just too over the top to let anyone forget with what this country is up against...

I've lived in Toronto, Canada all my many years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I'm not the most worldly traveller, but whenever I do I can't wait to get home. There are lots of beautiful places to live and lots of lovely people all over the world, so there's lots to choose from - but if you can be happy, healthy and fulfilled where you are, you've got it made.

My first thought would be the more sparsely populated portions of Canada, second would be to head on up to Alaska. No matter how bad things get here, no matter how far we drift from the America I called home my entire life, I won't leave where I'm at until I can get my family to move with me.

I was thinking: Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand. You know why? Because you never hear about them.

This is a huge obstacle for me as well. I would hate living far away from my family.

And they are all beautiful (at least from the vids I've seen).

Yeah, not so much for the grown ones, I'm used to them doing the diaspora. It's the grandchildren I can't live without.

Re: Given the changing times, would you rather live in another country?

I've lived in quite a few countries and they all had aspects that were better and worse than the US.

I've also listened to the doom and gloom projections we've had under every administration. Excessive spending √ Useless wars √ Loss of freedoms √ SS bankruptcy √. Still, for most of us (except those unemployed or underemployed that are really trying hard but just can't make it) America is a pretty much OK place to be.

Even now, I could live anyplace in the world I wanted to. I like Jamaica a lot. Amsterdam is pretty cool (but also pretty cold). But I can't move all my friends and family and cats in any practical sense.

America is still a land of opportunity. Still a comfortable place to live. Moving away because you dislike politicians just isn't really enough reason.

    IMHO of course.

I understand. I'm still trying to build a family, so I get frightened thinking I'll do it here, then regret it.
