He doesn't smoke before he comes to work, which is probably about right. I don't want my doctor smoking a joint or taking a shot of whiskey before coming into work, but after their shift ends? Doesn't bother me.

He's never caused me injury or performed a procedure incorrectly. His particular form of medicine requires procedures that could very well cripple me if performed incorrectly, so I don't take the interactions lightly....but I KNOW what pot does, how long it does it, and to what degree it happens. I also know that the effects become significantly less intense over time and with habitual use (just like tobacco, aspirin, alcohol, or pretty much any other substance that changes your bodily function). So my one-year, ever-so-often excursion into tokin' it up netted me a more intense high than this doctor, who has smoked several times a week for years. And even my first few times smokin' the really REALLY good stuff only netted a high that lasted a few hours, and certainly never lasted through my normal sleep cycle.

Well, no, I wouldn't assume the worst if I knew my doc was a pot-smoker. It would all depend on how capable he was of diagnosing and treating whatever problem I was having. It would depend on whether he was a recreational user, who just smoked a couple of joints in the evening for relaxation and chilling out, or if he needed it to function.

Well, I always think it is worth doing, but I'm finding it increasingly unlikely that those with whom I might also wish to partake in the event share quite my same enthusiasm.

Whenever I visit Dr Rastafi, this is usually on his Muzak.

I would be most appreciative to any here who might be able to explain the lyrics. I cannot quite make them out.

Choices will be yes, no and maybe. Need a sec to get the poll up (that sounds bad).
I wouldn't want someone operating on me stoned or drunk. But what they do after hours would seem to have no impact there

I believe most people would think if this news has reached my ears, "how bad is it?" They're not going to say, "hey Doc, I hear you're a pothead, smoke a lot?"
Many people just wouldn't take the chance.

Mild substance use, alcohol, pot, rx meds don't exclude a high functioning professional but suspicion of abuse and signs of inebriation are a different story.

So often I see questions or statements on here about situations that are too open to make such blanket judgements. You have to personally see more of the details and particulars to make such calculated decisions.

Regular visits to the doctor gets you a lot of unnecessary tests and suggestions for drug use, that I personally oppose, so I don't bother.

Many things that cause death can be prevented, like don't walk off the curb into heavy traffic, but I'm old enough to know that eggs were good for you before they were bad for you before they were good for you - all fat is bad except now some fats are good and necessary - and my favorite, cholestorol drugs are life savers except for all those complications they cause your liver and other internal organs.

We all have to go sometime - enjoy life while you can, tell people you love that you love them every chance you get, be good to people and don't begrudge those who aren't any given day, and stay away from regrets, etc. - then, when it's your time to go, it won't be so bad.
    Good morning, CJ.

    Excellent post!

I agree that it sure was confusing there for a while when they were telling us that the things we ate, like eggs, were BAD for us. Then they told us they were okay after all. Since the eggs didn't change one bit during this controversy, I decided my mom knew best, so now I ignore the "experts," since they can't make up their minds. I've noticed that the diet pyramid we grew up with keeps changing, too. My mom never changed her mind back and forth on what she fed us, so I cook like she taught, and so far all my children are healthy, too... one even went on to get a Masters Degree in Dietetics, and she still cooks like we taught her! We accidently did something right?
