I was thinking of a recreational user, but does it really matter?

Depends on what "regular" means. Also, I believe that there may be ethical issues in regards to his smoking with his malpractice insurance.

    Of course it matters.

A recreational user does it for entertainment and enjoyment.

A medical user does it because doing so maintains his physical health, and not doing it will cause his health to deteriorate.

That's a big difference right there.
Also, we need to legalize recreational drugs and prostitution.

Let's say he (or she) smokes it at least a couple days every week.

I'd probably consider it in the same category as someone who's drinking a couple of days every week. How inebriated are they? Is it affecting their job?

Just to be on the safe side, I'd say no.

I'd be concerned if a radiologist smoked up on his way to work and started seeing things in my X-Ray that weren't there. In other words, as long as the doc doesn't reek like he just burned one, I wouldn't worry about his pot smoking habit too much.

Regularly, no. Most physicians have very little recreational time until their careers are decades in, and then they have families that require that time. If they're regularly smoking that generally means they're not keeping up in their field.

Also that a great many doctors that don't have regularly scheduled shifts. This is the occupation that defines "residency" and "on-call".

If they have time to smoke THAT much, chances are that they're not that impressive of a doctor to begin with.

No, I don't want me or my family going to a doctor that smoked Marijuana. As a pharmacist (if I work in a community pharmacy) I probably wouldn't fill any of his narcotic prescriptions either.

I would also report them to the medical board in their state.
