Smoking pot, IMO, is bad judgment for an adult. If people want to smoke it, fine, but I can also exercise my own judgment and find a different doctor. It's not like he's pumping cas or ringing up a beer sale, he's involved in a very serious business, and any incapacitation can affect his judgement.
    A vote !
    Maybe
I place marijuana in the same category with alcohol, cigarettes, and other crap.
If the doctor places his patients first, then - no problem.
A real turn-off is a man and his room smelling with the stench of smoke....or a dentist with alcohol on this breath...
    Ugh!
    The client comes first...and foremost...
Our Federal Government must grow up and legalize marijuana !

    Sure, why not.

As a little kid, I was operated on by a talented surgeon who got dumped into our unpriviliged clinic on the industrial outskirts of Moscow as a punishment, because he applied for emigration, being an ethnic German. It was one hell of a multiple trauma, low chances, etc. After many hours of cutting and suturing, he emerged into the waiting room, declared victory - and gulped down half a bottle of Armenian brandy, to relieve the stress.

Do you think my parents were concerned in the least that the man, obviously, drinks?

(On his 90th birthday, I have sent a crate of commemorative "Ararat Akhtamar" to his Californian work address. He doesn't practice anymore - only teaches, but that's because of the old age and arthritis, not because he still drinks alcohol).

I would not, nor would I regularly use a doctor who drank excessively, or smoked cigarettes at all.

i feel the same way about it that i do about alcohol. i don't much care if the doc knocks back a few drinks at night, but he should be sober at work. the effects of pot linger a bit longer, but if he's smart enough to get through med school, then he probably has a good chance of knowing his limits and handling his **** properly.

Regular? No. A lot of people can handle their pot just fine, but I just couldn't take the chance that my doctor would fit into the category of people who can't. I know we could go on all day about which substances are worse, but my answer would be the same if the question was about alcohol, meth, heroine or lsd. By the way, the operative word that was most important to my answer was "regular."

I'm the same way. If I found out he used, sure. If I found out he used regularly, no.

It's not hypocritical, since I would have an issue going to an alcoholic doctor as well, but not one I saw having a beer or 2 after work in a bar somewhere.

Yeah, I would. So long as he isn't smoking on the job.

It's not much different than a doctor who regularly drinks beer (or wine, or scotch), and maybe even LESS significant than that.

I voted maybe for pretty much the same reasons as everyone else.

You all are trusting. I actually did quit using a vet that I had taken my dogs to when a friend of mine, who knew the guy personally, told me he was a known pot user.

Why is he smoking it regularly? Is it for recreation? Or because he was prescribed it as a treatment for a particular medical issue, such as one related to cancer?
Also, we need to legalize recreational drugs and prostitution.
