Yes, because we all know that the N Koreans are completely nuts.

Re: Leaving NKorea, Rodman calls Kims 'great leaders'

I don't know alot about Rodman.

But if I was in his position, I might have done the same thing for two reasons.

    1) Someone from the US giving Kim Jong Un a compliment such as this may foster marginally better relations between North Korea and the United States. Dealing with North Korea is no picnic and things like this can go a long way in the short term.

    2) It undermines the North Korean Governments propaganda about the United States, if someone from the United States says something like this, given that North Koreas population is taught from Birth that the US is a bunch of blood thirsty murderers whose sole purpose in life is to destroy their "Socialist Utopia".

Now I can't say for sure what his motivation was for saying what he said... I can only say what my motivation would be for saying the same thing.

At the same time I've actually looked into going to North Korea with a government sanctioned tour company out of Beijing run by British Expats, did alot of research into it and one of the things is... if you do visit North Korea you are literally required to pay homage to the leaders of the country, that means bowing at their statues, presenting flowers before their statues and saying a word or two.

One of the things they stress is, if you are not willing to do these things do not enter the country.

Rodman helped write the book on modern crazy. He goes to a nation with a horrible human rights record and declares their "Dear Leader" to be a cool guy. Brilliant. I'll listen to Rodman's opinions regarding basketball.

That Rodman and the Kims get along is no surprise to me. Birds of a feather and all.
