If true then they must have word recognition software for forums, because there's no way they have the manpower to lurk in every political site. The number of people who talk like Gipper just did is mind boggling.

I don't know about software recognition. I know that they will investigate, consider it and then pay a visit if necessary. On another political site I used, a poster made similar statements, of support and prayer that someone would do it. The posts were reported to the mods and a call was made to the Secret Service, not by me. He told the board he was visited and warned. His posts were removed and he never posted like that again.

People in power are applauded, even idolized, when they do great things for the country .. and they get statues erected and people kissing their hand.

But, when they behave in obvious Benedict Arnold fashion, selling America and its citizens down the river in blatant pandering for votes and power, well .. then they get what they should understandably expect.

The freedom of speech issue is a diversion from the greater situation at hand.

What's of paramount, foundational import is the actual behavior of the politicians American citizens entrusted at the voting booth.

Politicians cannot realistically expect that they can do whatever American-citizen damage they wish and then run and hide behind the skirt of mommy law, as there are a ton of "independents", "anarchists", and other "crazies" who, at some point of feeling utterly betrayed and sold out, actually do indeed lose respect for the very law those Benedict Arnoldian politicians were supposed to be protecting.

So although it is wrong to cry "Fire!" in a crowded theatre when there is no fire, or threaten anyone's life for real, "wrong", in this case, is a rational observation, and by the time the perpetrator has been so egregiously and intollerably wronged, considering the damage inflicted and the emotional reaction that has most understandably set in, it's really very foolish to expect rational behavior from such an individual.

For now, however, we have stories we can tell that, though not illegal, still get the message across .. such as this: http://www.debatepolitics.com/general-political-discussion/149967-justice-all-prophetically-analogous-allegory.html#post1061395713.

Again, a word to the wise D.C. politican.

IMO, total BS.

Whatever your feeling about an elected official, no one has the right to threaten their lives. Period. It is plainly against the law. I would make this statement no matter the letter following the official's name.

IMO I don't see the problem of someone threatening a politician on the internet.

I wouldn't do it myself but some people get frustrated and act out in anonominity(sp)?

I feel as though a person who was actually going to do harm would not advertise it.

Unabomber did.

it is a waste of time and resources. The claim is it costs $100 million a year to protect the POTUS and an additional $3 million per family member there after. If that isn't enough to keep him safe from VIABLE threats than he might as well just hail a cab wherever he needs to go and save us all a ton of money.

The arrest and harrassment of individuals blowing off steam by making hyperbolic declarations only shows how petty and small the office is.

Grow a pair Mr. "World's Most Powerful Man". You ain't royalty.

(This goes for them all not just Obama)

What a perfectly rational post.

The assassination of John and Bobby Kenndy changed this country for the worse. We wound up with that moonbat, Nixon.

Meh.....he should have just accepted for kickin him in the azz!
shrug.gif

Than at least he could have made the headlines as the man arrested for threatening to give the POTUS a good swift kick in the azz.

In this case, I have to vote "not sure" as no context for the statement was given. If I saw the whole post from FB, then I maybe could judge it.

Making a threat should trump free speech. Whether it is a threat or not depends a lot on context. For example, the article says he stated he "wants to", does say not say he intends to, so the threat is not very clear. I want to own a Lamborghini, does that mean I am going to go out and buy one? No, I don't have the means. To me, at least, expressing a desire is not a threat to carry out that desire.

Not all speech is free speech. If this douche didn't know that, maybe he deserves 3 hots and a cot for a few months to help him sort some stuff out.

Having said that, I don't blame him. I'll never say "I'm going to shoot Obama", but I'd wholeheartedly support anyone who said they would.

I'd even buy the ammo.

I wouldn't. Biden would be in the WH then, God, now that is a scary thought.

While I can agree with the sentiment and certainly would not mourn BO's passing, no way could I support moving Biden up.

I will say that "intent" has a lot to do with it.

However people should not overburden the secret service by making stupid statements.

No excuse for this for two reasons:

1. It's illegal, and it should be. You don't get to organize (implicitly or otherwise) assassinations of publicly elected officials.

2. It's stupid. Talk about a high-visibility crime, and you skyline yourself? If you are going to commit murder, you don't post it on your daggum facebook three days beforehand. You keep it a secret and the way to do that is tell nobody.

I could live with Dr. Jill as the first lady...hell of a lot more than I could that racist piece of crap Michelle.

Small price to pay.

I have to reply to this post...

I am English..blonde hair..blue eyes..

If I take a plane..I have to surrender my shoes..my bag...my belt..have a personal photo taken...my passport inspected minutely until I get a boarding pass..

When I come back to England..there are a couple of guys on the passport control..who wave you by..

So do they think..as an English person..I am exporting bombs to the Middle East?

Maybe, assume the position for a cavity search.

yes. arrest his ass.

i think we've all accepted that threatening to assassinate someone is not free speech, or at least enough of us have accepted it.

For ****'s sake, she's just a first lady. She gives speeches from time to time, poses for photographs, wears fancy dresses, goes on talk shows and takes on safe, family friendly causes. Like every other first lady who's ever lived. She is literally the most banal, harmless national figure to get so riled up about.

I like to think Dr. Jill wouldn't abuse public coffers like Michelle has, does, and will continue to do.

Now I ain't sayin' she's a gold digger...but she ain't messin' with no...well you get the point.

And he shouldn't have been. What makes the POTUS so special? If someone says they're going to kill me on Facebook, nothing happens. We hear of sports stars being threatened all the time. Nothing happens to the threatening party. Saying you're going to do something and actually doing it are 2 totally different things.

Let 'em come after me. Gubmint's no stranger to wasting money - especially not this administration.

Sigh - another internet tough guy wishing for death of somebody because he disagrees with him politically. Sad.

If this isn't a crime, it ought to be.
