When the citizenry loses its ability to maintain good order in society, someone must step in and fix the problem. I see no other option beyond the Government to do so.
That's a wise assessment, and true. On the other hand, we wouldn't need somebody to step in and fix the problem if somebody hadn't stepped in and caused the problem.

I would suggest that the CAUSE of the problem has been vastly in the hands of the Citizenry. The Government has simply taken advantage of the incompetent, ignorant, and worthless citizenry of this nation to exacerbate the problem. The majority of the mistakes the Government has made have been in response to the lack of morals, values, and personal responsibility of the citizenry, not the other way around. Of course having seen that the Government will step in and "fix" everything for them has led to an even lower expectation of personal responsibility.

I am leaning to be agreeable with you, but the ways things are now is so-so to OK.

As to the "police state" , as advertised, of course, a NO vote...
Who would be that insane to vote YES ?
Well, I guess nobody has ever stolen your newspaper!

Nope. Some of us answer to a philosophy and viewpoint that was thousands of years old before the Founding Fathers were even born. A philosophy that simply states "There is Right and there is Wrong. There is nothing else. There are no exceptions." The Founding Fathers got the equation HALF Right, which means they got it Wrong. They expected way too much from the People and in no way made any significant requirement upon them to hold up their end of the bargain that the Constitution represents.

Who said anything about the Freemasons or religion as issues in this discussion? Right and Wrong have nothing to do with either one of those things.

No, that wasn't my point at all. We should most definitely never ignore the problem.

My point was that this has happened before, and we didn't end up turning into a police state.

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality. - MLK

Right, and you're the one who decides what's right and what's wrong. No, thanks. I got a four year old that will have sounder advice.
