truth is no injury came to the animal there is no violation of the law

The woman is guilty of harassing the animal, whether or not it got hurt is not the issue here.

I agree people can be pretty stupid, and I agree writing a manatee is stupid too, it's a wild animal and could easily kill you, if it bit her and drowned her, I wouldn't be concerned that is a dumb thing to do.

was the creature injured, who was injured in it couldn't be injured. there is no law against being stupid and there shouldn't be.

It does not matter if the creature was injured, the law says no harassment of these protected creatures and riding them constitutes harassment and thus is illegal.

Of all the places I've lived, Tampa Bay was definitely the weirdest.

I bet the bronco thinks so. If you cant understand the difference in a wild animal on the endangered species list and an escaped domistacated animal then I dont know what else to say, and ride a hippo if you want.
so breaking a Bronco is harassment? we ride animals, we have for thousands of years.

no thanks I have machines that don't need food. but lots of people like to ride animals. the only difference is one animal has been anointed some special status because it doesn't breed enough.

animals are animals.

regardless of your haphazard guessing game of what animal is appropriate to ride and which one isn't, the poll was SHOULD the government make it illegal. I say it shouldn't, lets not worry x with good for nothing crap in the sea when the cps system is desperately under staffed. That silly little creature can breed and make more, if they decide not to it's clear why they are "endangered".

I don't care about manatees. And I don't think the government should bother with that silliness.

we ride horses, animals that have been domesticated and used for transportation, manatees are not meant for riding on.

this diversion is stupid.

no the government should not forbid riding an animal it should worry about all the other tasks it miserably fails at before picking a new one to blow money and be terrible at.

Yes, there are dumb laws but this law is not an absurd one.

Yes, it is. It is ridiculous on its face. Just try to justify a law against riding a manatee. By all means.

Even on "endangered species" grounds, please explain how playing with a manatee involves its death and / or inability to reproduce.

don't try and use a reason, not in this thread anyway.

Guidelines

Follow these basic guidelines when you are near manatees.

General

Don't feed manatees or give them water. If manatees become accustomed to being around people, they can alter their behavior in the wild, perhaps causing them to lose their natural fear of boats and humans, and this may make them more susceptible to harm. Passive observation is the best way to interact with manatees and all wildlife.
Do not pursue or chase a manatee while you are swimming, snorkeling, diving or operating a boat.
If a manatee avoids you, you should avoid it.
Don't isolate or single out an individual manatee from its group, and don't separate a cow from her calf.

Touching

Look, but don't touch manatees.
Never poke, prod or stab a manatee with your hands, feet or any object.
Don't attempt to snag, hook, grab, hold, pinch or ride a manatee.

FPL | Basic Guidelines Regarding Manatees

Basic dos and don'ts

Background

The Florida manatee is an endangered species and is protected by state and federal law.

Don't harass manatees

Please avoid harassing or disturbing manatees. Harassment is defined as: any activity that alters the animal's natural behavior. By altering the manatee's natural behavior, you may create the likelihood of danger that is bad for the animal and against the law.

FPL | Protecting Manatees

And that is why people aren't allowed to touch/ride manatees.
