#2 - I'm not so sure about that. For every legal product there's a black market that aids the individuals in sidestepping taxes, legalities and other such things. Everything from purses to moonshine.

It has happened before, but there is nothing to compare it to now.

Of course, but the gains from tax-dodging or copyright violations are miniscule, comparing to the super-profits drug cartels are enjoying under the dark cloud of the Idiotic War on Drugs.

We have to come to terms with the harsh reality: Most of the violent crime that kills our children and destroys our neighborhoods is a direct result of our own well-intentioned policies. We had ignored both common sense and experience [we had a prohibition once already, anyone remembers?] in favor of our "progressive" optimism. "It doesn't make any sense, but together we can do it!". "Yes, we can" - and that's the problem.

So you really think they'll just go away and stop dabbling in it?

First - people don't seem to understand why the cartels do what they do: financial security, wealth, notoriety - etc.
So - given that . . . What would they do for a living, then? In their nation - their region - and their culture. . . what would they do to continue to have financial security, wealthy and notoriety?

Do you honestly believe they'll just stop - roll over - and go away? Just stop being cartels with weapons, peons and doing whatever they want? It's foolhardy to think so. . . They will not just roll over and earn an honest living. They will find something else - use their resources and abilities to do something else.

Don't even underestimate your opponents - which is obviously what you're doing with your 'they'll just stop misbehaving' crap. Will they? How - on what reason would they?

Did the bootleggers and gangsters of the 1920s just stop - roll over - and go away, after the Original Idiotic War on (some) Drugs was discontinued?

They kinda did. Because their "turf advantages" and "international connections" (no offence, Canada) had suddenly lost all meaning. And violent crime had decreased sharply - I dont think many people realize just how sharply - look up any statistics on homicide in America "before" and "after'.

During prohibition, there were many including Congress who blamed all of the gun violence on guns and the easy access to guns.

This is when Congress passed it's first gun control legislation, making it more difficult to purchase handguns and sub machineguns. But as soon as they repealed the Eighteenth Amendment it was discovered that it wasn't the gun that was responsible for all of the gun violence.

But the restrictions of legally owning a sub machinegun, full automatic rifles and machineguns remained in place. You could still legally purchase and posses a machinegun in America, all you have to do is go through a background check to show your a law abiding citizen and pay a one time ATF / BATF tax of $200.

Today there are 1/4 of a million full automatic sub machineguns, full automatic rifles and machineguns legally owned by law abiding citizens. The BATF report to Congress shows that since the repealing of the Eighteenth Amendment not one of the 1/4 of a million full automatic firearms that are legally owned by citizens has ever been used in a crime. NOT ONE !

Im a "casual" smoker of cannabis. So yes, i probably would. Really not afraid of getting caught. Even if it did carry the death penalty i think most cops would turn a blind eye because of the severity of the punishment. Most cops dont have the gestapo mentality.

Most cops don't have a gestapo mentality?

Most cops do have a gestapo mentality but most cops are lazy. What would you prefer -- sitting in an office with your boss on your back doing paperwork or sitting at the local DD?

The corruption that would ensue to have them cops turn a blind eye would be devastating.

Keep a dime bag on you.............. see a beautiful woman you can't ever dream of getting............death or............. See a bentley driving down the road, child support is killing you....

the math isn't hard to figure out.
