Well, crap. I was going to make a joke about the song and feel all clever about it, but that's what the thread was about all along.

Huh, just two weeks ago I watched La Cage aux rossignols for the frist time. Synchronicity, Herr Doktor Jung would say. Spooky.

Re: Would you let your son grow up to be a cowboy

As a 4rth Generation Texan I can say I've met my share of real cowboys and would be impressed if one of my kids tried to go that direction.

But Cowboys, "real Cowboys " are born, not made. Their priorities are centered in noble concepts and are fundamentally honest and hard working people.

Money is at the bottom of their list of priorities and they're as tough of a individual you will ever meet.

Most of my family are ranchers and cowboys (one of my cousins was recently on a popular cowboy magazine cover). Absolutely.

And don't forget buying and selling at auction, dosing meds, and delivering foals and calves. Or cowgirls.

One of my girlfriends (Ph.D. in Gothic Lit., which I mention since some folks posting here stereotype "cowfolk," LOL) delivered a calf just a week ago when mama died giving birth. Not the first time she's done this either. Oh, and she cleans up right nice in pearls, pumps, and twinsets.

    You didn't define "Cowboy."
A friend of mine that recently passed away was a real cowboy. He went to Montana and worked as a cowboy. He left with his horse and pack on Sunday evenings or Monday mornings and followed the range fence, repairing as he went along, steering strays, curing problems. Unrolled the pack and camped every night cooking dead cow all the time. Maybe a few potatoes, etc. It took six days to go all the way around the ranch and he was back for Saturday action, whatever that might be. He was a really good friend and fellow dirt track racer, as well, and confided to me that the cowboy job was the absolute best job of his entire life. He didn't play the guitar too well.
