Ron Paul tweets about SEAL sniper's death | The Daily Caller

Ron Paul ✔ @RonPaul

Chris Kyle's death seems to confirm that "he who lives by the sword dies by the sword." Treating PTSD at a firing range doesn't make sense

I do, absolutely. I'm tired of the cult of militarism in which every soldier is a hero and every critic a traitor. I'm thankful Paul has the guts to say what so many of us are feeling.

I think it was largely tasteless. Whatever thoughts toward PTSD treatment one ought to have, during moments like that, Paul should have simply said it was tragic.

It may not be politically correct but it's not incorrect either. Especially the second sentence. I haven't followed this story very closely -- they really were at the shooting range to try to help a guy's PTSD, huh?

:sigh:

Paul's Facebook status says as much:

As a veteran, I certainly recognize that this weekend's violence and killing of Chris Kyle were a tragic and sad event. My condolences and prayers go out to Mr. Kyle's family. Unconstitutional and unnecessary wars have endless unintended consequences. A policy of non-violence, as Christ preached, would have prevented this and similar tragedies. -REP

Ron Paul has an open invitation to kiss my ass.

His comment was an insult to every man and woman who has put their life on the line for the people of this nation.

Has anyone asked him how he feels about cops? They tend to "live by the sword" from time to time too.

Is it true that Kyle was "treating" PTSD at the gun range?

I'd have trouble coming up with a more bizarre idea

Taking someone with critical combat PTSD to a shooting range is a horrible idea as it is. To think it's actually curative is double horrible. Fatally stupid mistake.

Ron Paul continues to be an idiot.

To be fair, I could see how it might possibly therapuetic (similar to the "exposure therapy" that works for phobics), but only if done by a professionally trained therapist, not "some guy" with a savior complex.

Good point, although exposure therapy for PTSD is very controversial if not flat-out contraindicated because of the potential for retraumatization, which is iatrogenic.

I just can't see Ron Paul actually using his Twitter account. I bet it was a staffer.

He's got more time now. Plus, in these instances, always smart to have your staff, however small it may be after being finished with Congress, run the comment by you if it could potentially cause a storm.

I was not aware of that, which again demonstrates the foolishness of a non-professional trying to treat a serious condition. Thanks for pointing that out

I don't see his comment as an insult to every man or woman with that whole harm's way thing. Sad fact is across the Grand and Glorious Republic statues in county seat front lawns and a wall in DC list those very people who lived and died by the sword.

cops sometimes live and die by the sword.

Is a fact, nothing more.

I have trouble believing anyone would think shooting is a good idea with someone who is troubled. doesn't help the 'sane and responsible' firearms owner image when a Former Seal and firearm's instructor pulls a bonehead stunt like this.

I also see Ron as someone who doesn't givachit about being polite, his supporters love it when he attacks what they don't like and are 'disgusted' when he uses the same attitude on subject they hold dear.

I think Ron Paul is senile.

That.

I think he's always been a bit off kilter though but slamming a dead man whose life contained years of service to his country and then years of trying to help soldiers who are suffering with mental conditions after returning home... I think calling him senile is putting it nicely.

His Twitter comment does not.
A Representative twittering and tweeting ?
I thought this silly-ness was for the children (of all ages).
What was Paul's INTERNET statement ?
Strangely, I agree with part of his "philosophy" (non-violence).....

Perhaps Ron Paul has a different view a view similar to my own and that is these people were/are not putting their life on the line to protect our country or it citizens but instead are blindly being used for political ends. In fact the last major military conflict we were involved in that I would consider as a case of protecting our country would be WWII. I get sick and tired of hearing about our "heroes" giving their lives for me when I feel they are doing nothing of the kind. Personally I think they are fools for doing so and I do not hold them in high regard.

RP is taking the proverb way out of context.

I agree with the good Doctor about a lot of things. I don't agree with his timing or the first sentence. The second, yeah, I can see that. The first? No. The first sentence seems to suggest that Mr Kyle was some sort of mercenary sadist. I don't think he was. I have seen interviews with him and he has said that he hated to see the way the "terrorists" in Iraq treated Iraqi civilians. I don't believe Mr Kyle was cruel or a sadist. I just think he was a top notch operator who was sent to a bottom notch "war" and did some great things despite the circumstances, as many of us that went to that theater did. Dr Paul could have waited a while for the second sentence. The first never should have been uttered.

He perhaps could have used a more gentle touch but treating shell shock with more shock doesn't seem to be the smartest thing anyone came up with. We should be lucky it ended in only two tragic deaths.
