Should the United States end it's trade embargo and travel ban with Cuba?

Maybe. There are other ways we could deal with that, but at least it would cost them more time/money to get back.

Remember that not all of us believe in Freedom the same way that you do.

Oh I know....I understand your views very clearly from previous threads.

My view is they should be free to travel wherever they want as long as they assume the risk and understand that nobody will come save you if anything happens. (Like someone wanting to travel to Somalia for example....WHY? I don't know)

My question would be... Why would an American citizen want to travel to a foreign country that is not friendly to the United States to begin with? Though I do agree that if you leave the US, you do so at your own risk.

The reality is, whenever an American is held in a foreign country, we ARE involved. We have travel advisories for countries now, but when the pedal hits the metal our state department at the very least gets involved. Americans generally don't like leaving someone stranded against their will in a foreign country, even if they put themselves there.

Which is a problem so far as I'm concerned. If you're stupid enough to go hiking on the Iran-Iraq border and get yourself arrested by the Iranians, you're an imbecile (especially if you're female). There need to be some consequences for stupid people doing ridiculous things. Maybe 25 years in an Iranian jail cell wearing a burkah will impress upon you that once you step outside the US you're not in Kansas anymore.

One of the incredibly damaging things to America that has been on the Liberal agenda for the past thirty years is devaluation and disrespect of America. College professors teach the students sarcasm and ridicule of the United States. To even mention something good America has done brings instant rebuttal from liberals like you. To you, there is No Good to the United States, it is bad, bad, bad and you stand ready to prove it with instant facts at your fingertips.

Foreigners see this internal constant hate and ridicule of the United States and they are happy to take up the chant. They see America haters like Obama go down to the Southern border and make jokes about the United States to laughing Mexicans and they think Hell, the damn president doesn't even respect that worthless country.

So I have no doubt that Observer92 actually believed that it was completely acceptable to insult the United States and everyone would think it was funny. That is Liberalism, kneejerk ridicule and laughter at the United States with an expectation that everyone will applaud. That is the danger of thinking that the liberal fruitcakes actually speak for Americans. They are evil, freakish people that are regarded as mentally ill.

It's really damn cold today. ****ing Liberals....

Perhaps, but if it were your son or daughter, in real life you'd be all over the State Department to do something. Life, and children, do not always follow the script you have in mind.

Nope. My children would have hopefully learned (from me) that their place is here in the United States, not wandering across the wsatelands of the world. I believe in personal responsibility. If they chose to do otherwise, it would be with full knowledge that I would not be there to bail their arses out.

I see no real reason for a continued ban. It never really worked anyway. Not sure I would ever want to go there but if others do they should be allowed. I don't see any real threat from them any longer.

Easy to say. Whether true when faced with a real situation or not, doesn't matter, most of us would turn to any means to get them home. Folks faced with that situation do.

Cuna is getting more and more capitalist, despite the ban. I was watching a documentary, and they've allowed individuals to own private farms, buy and sell property, and all sorts of fun, capitalist things. Lifting the embargo can only hasten this.

Should this not be under "conspiracy theories" ?

We need a "dislike" option.

There have been Prez nominees who made normalizing relations with Cuba part of their election platform (JC comes to mind) or at least made feints to it (BC) at the expense of badly needed votes, yet each one once they got in the oval office, you never heard a word since.

Why is that? This is the question people need to ask. There is a reason presidents don't pursue it, there is a reason legislators don't pursue it.

There is a reason why we don't normalize relations with Cuba and it isn't about economics or communism. The problem is, it's above most of our pay grades to know.

No idea have I..
At one time I was convinced that the Communists murdered President Kennedy.
Now I accept that a "nut case" did..And we have plenty of those running about....
I also wonder as to how many of our "law-makers" even know that Cuba exists...a nation so close, so screwed yet forgotten.

Yes.

Because we are not some Communist tyranny where the all-powerful, sacred State can dictate where its citizens go for vacation or who they do business with.

(I'd be the first to sign up for a military expedition to overthrow the putrid blood-sucking Stalinist mafia in Havana - I am serious. But why exactly are they so "putrid"? - isn't it because the murderous thugs deny their citizens most elementary choices? - - - Oh, right.....)

There is ample evidence of Oswald's connections with the USSR.

Kennedy humiliated the USSR over the missile crisis.
Kennedy twice tried to have Castro overthrown or executed.
Kennedy blamed the mafia for the Bay of Pigs debacle.
Kennedy was assassinated.
Bobby Kennedy went on a jihad against the mafia.
Bobby Kennedy ran for president.

Some of us do not believe in freedom at all apparently.

Or you could say the Cuban exiles are against it or at least those that haven't died yet.

The time is overdue for us to lift the travel ban to Cuba. Let ordinary Americans see just what Communism has done and what the free market is doing and will do to rectify it.

It is early yet, but you dont often see this kind of unanimity in poll results.

And yet, when people like Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul talk about opening trade with Cuba they get booed off the stage.

Some of us see it as a privilege, not a Right. One earned by proving you can make proper decisions.

And who determines whether that freedom has been "earned?"
