I don't believe that you can equate the need to eat and being fed as a child to being raised in a home where someone smokes - I agree both can lead to addictions, but only one case is a function of survival.
I didn't restrict my reasoning to the home environment. I has to do with the overarching environment in which a person is raised...

I don't disagree that there are environmental impacts on someone taking up smoking, such as peer pressure, etc. - the point I was trying to make is that parenting provides learned behaviors that are carried through life and what a child eats in his/her early years often sets their palate and tastes for the rest of their lives - what you learn when you're under 5-6 yrs old stays with you forever - I don't believe anyone takes up smoking or is pressured to smoke as a child.

Point being, it is just as much the result of a person's environment as any other health habits...

I'll cede the point and go back to my original comments, that being that I'm opposed to any different levels of taxation being levied on individuals based on their habits and/or physicality.

It was off and on until I was 12 or so. Then it became a regular habit. I did quit once for three years in my early forties...

It's insane to tax people who smoke or who are overweight. If you turn the tides, you could ask the same question about taxing people who are vegetarians, who go to the gym to work out several times a week, who have to take prescription medication, etc.

Scientific fact: If you took all of the veins from your body and laid them end to end, you would die.
