Um, you dont have to do that in the states either. Probably best to know something about what you're criticising.

I'm not sure this is backed up by anything but what you see on fictional television, but if it were true personal choice has nothing to do with the concept of secularism.

Not sure I understand. If Turkey is attempting to arm Islamist in Africa that would not be something an ally would do. Islamist and al Qaeda in particular are enemies of the United States.

Turkey has been supportive of Kenya, then the African Union and finally the UN's efforts to oust al shabab from Somalia and bring in a democratic transitional government.

What is fake Islamism?

moderate islamism which has to obey your rules in international arena.

like saudi regime...

their people can suffer from terrible traditional arabian rules ,but no problem as long as they get along with you

saudi regime is more dangerous and bigoted but you like them

l hope you understand it.

Look. You seem to be upset about American attitudes toward Turkey. You made a claim about the relative theocratic tendencies of our two democracies. I asked to hear more about your perspective on the matter, because I was genuinely interested. You are not helping by being snotty. It's not going to convince anyone, and it is just going to leave people to think that they are right on the matter.

You brought the whole subject up on a debate board. If you didn't want to discuss it, why did you bring it up?

In any case, we don't have to swear on any religious text. We can swear by raising our hand instead, and Atheists can omit "so help me god". Not sure where you are getting your information. Perhaps you should Google stuff?

this thread is not about secularism .l had to mention it because another user mentioned it before.

you dont have to ,but you can .

the members of congress and president can swear to god in congress sittings too

your secularism is different from ours.

Well, I guess throughout the year they could be. But around Thanksgiving I would say they would beg to differ. I usually declare war on Turkey once a year. Maybe twice. Depending upon what my wife cooks for Christmas.

:rofl

/cough

Carry on.

why ?

this is not a fun thread............

The post I quoted was humorous. A little levity in serious matters is sometimes useful.

everybody
please stop trolling in my thread!

I think the problem I see with a lot of American is a general description of all people in the Middle East. They don't differentiate Turkish people from Jordanian, Syrian, or Lebanese. The use the broad description for all and just call them Arabs. They even call Iranians Arab which is a misnomer that they hate.

Hell, half the people don't even understand that Istanbul used to be Constantinople.

Turkey has been key for us with military operations and so forth.

This thread is about USA and Turkey relations, and the subject naturally partially hinges on the Islamism of the party currently in power. I doubt you are ignorant of this matter. It came up, as you must have expected.

You have an opportunity to discuss differences toward mutual understanding. Take it or leave it.

show me why l am ignorant ?
please............

usa differs from france and turkey in different understandings of secularism

you must be ignorant.......

Turkey is largely irrelevant. It is marginally easier to get along with them over invade them. That is about as far as most of us care.

Don't make me post the They Might Be Giants video again.
