Re: Would you like to see the govt confiscate legally obtained/owned "assault" weapon

I was under the impression that everything was going to be grand fathered in and this was only going to affect future sales and distribution of certain weapons.
I am curious though, would any of you change your mind if this was a poll for
"Would you like to see the govt confiscate legally obtained/owned Rocket Propelled Grenade Launchers and .50 caliber weapons?"
Personally there are some weapons the average person shouldn't be allowed to own.

Re: Would you like to see the govt confiscate legally obtained/owned "assault" weapon

I read an editorial from a judge that supports not only confiscation but stiff prison terms for anyone unwilling to turn over the guns. I am liking the results of this poll though. Seems DPers are sharper than some (probably most, lol) judges (not that I'm surprised).
When I first saw your comment I figured it was local Ya-hoo - I was shocked to discover he's a Federal judge.

It wouldn't change my vote in the least. I'm not a gun owner but I've been around them all my life. The only thing you have to fear from any firearm/explosive is the same fear you should have from other cars on the road - the nut behind the wheel.

Re: Would you like to see the govt confiscate legally obtained/owned "assault" weapon

Oh hell no. I would kill you first. Don't touch my things and i'll not touch yours.

Re: Would you like to see the govt confiscate legally obtained/owned "assault" weapon

for some, "from my cold, dead hands" isn't merely a slogan...

Re: Would you like to see the govt confiscate legally obtained/owned "assault" weapon

I'm sure that thoughts of gun confiscations gives Whineswine wet dreams, but ain't going to fly in reality. Even if it somehow got passed and Body Oder signed it, it would be tossed out by the courts. If not, well,

Re: Would you like to see the govt confiscate legally obtained/owned "assault" weapon

I keep reading that people are saying that they think most people would comply... but I don't think that's the case. I think most current gun owners would "hide" whatever guns they do have. Let someone come ringing my doorbell to tell me that they are there to gather my firearms. I don't think so. Who exactly, would be charged with such a task? Local law enforcement? Feds? Who?

Most military and law enforcement folks I know, have a SERIOUS issue with this entire AWB craziness.

in the early 90s cincinnati passed a law requiring anyone who wanted to keep their "assault weapons" to register them-unregistered AW were contraband. LESS THAN 100 people complied. At that time I had access to the 4473 records of two of the biggest gun dealers in Hamilton County (there was only one gunshop in the city limits due to prior idiocy of the city council). I knew for a fact that those two shops had sold at least 1000 residents of the city proper such weapons. So there was less than 10% compliance based merely on two shops I knew about. Given there were at least a dozen other shops within a 20 minute driver of cincinnati and two actually were inside cincinnati in a municipality surrounded by Cincinnati called Norwood, the rate of non compliance must have been far far higher. wisely, the cops never tried to enforce this idiocy-the only charges were when druggies or gangbangers were arrested by Cincy Cops and it was a minor charge on top the serious felonies.

Re: Would you like to see the govt confiscate legally obtained/owned "assault" weapon

I really am paying attention to the results with just what you're saying in mind.

Edit: No sooner do you say it's 100% and someone votes yes.

Eh, they're just as likely to be far-right/fascists as they are to be liberals. This is a diverse forum.

Re: Would you like to see the govt confiscate legally obtained/owned "assault" weapon

Wow. I'm very surprised at the results of this thread.

Except it wasn't.

Re: Would you like to see the govt confiscate legally obtained/owned "assault" weapon

Do you really foresee law abiding citizens killing federal agents (or state LEOs) over this? Honestly, I bet most people would just comply (therefore taking those guns from the people nobody had to worry about in the first place).

I certainly don't see people standing up for their rights, so you are correct on that count.

However, they should resist, and they should fight. The whole point of the 2nd is to prevent tyranny through force of arms ... If you aren't going to exercise it when they come to take them away, exactly when were you going to do so?

You shouldn't be.

Most people have a decent understanding of right and wrong. Most people, no matter how they act on the internet, understand that people should only be punished for a crime if they actually commit that crime.

If such an action as confiscation were implemented there would be some who, out of fear for their lives, complied willingly. There would be many, many more for whom the principles of liberty would be far more important than their lives. The first act of "active resistance" to a law such as this would draw a clear line for most people and ignite a fuse that would only be put out with lots and lots of blood.

There's another forum I post on where the vast majority of liberals want a ban on so-called "assault rifles" and even a few who want a ban on ALL weapons in civilian homes. I'm glad we have some sane people here. :)

Re: Would you like to see the govt confiscate legally obtained/owned "assault" weapon

What possible use can there ever be for an assault weapon in a domestic setting?

Thanks for voting and for posting in this thread. I know there are others that agree with you (based on posts I've seen) that either haven't seen the poll or don't want to vote.

Re: Would you like to see the govt confiscate legally obtained/owned "assault" weapon

NO VOTE
No, I'd not like to see our government confiscate anything legally obtained.
What I do want is legislation prohibiting the insane and semi-insane from owning any type of gun, and dangerous knives as well.
Here the problems begin , I do not think we have the quality of people for this , yet....
Maybe in 20 years, and we had best be working on this NOW.
And why was the assault weapons ban ever lifted ???

I sat with a group of men this morning at breakfast, all in their 60's and 70's, all said the confiscators would receive the hot end first. This administration is beginning to remind me of the movie V.

I think what you are seeing is what the reality is. Almost no one wants to confiscate firearms.

Militia meeting?

Just to be clear, this isn't a poll about banning weapons, it's about taking them away from lawful owners. I do not believe most people who agree with banning weapons would also agree to the confiscation of legally obtained firearms. There are obviously a few who would like to see it but they're a small minority of the gun control side.

Militia meeting?

Breakfast at a public restaurant. Conceal/carry is legal here and our crime rates are almost nothing here. 2 murders last year and neither victim or shooter was from here.

Same diff.

Re: Would you like to see the govt confiscate legally obtained/owned "assault" weapon

I would like to know what would give the government the right to confiscate anyone's weapons as long as they were legal weapons and the person did not break any laws.

Bull****, the poll clearly shows how most feel.

Is this the reason why we have an "ignore option " ?
