    How Involved Are You?

I think it is well known that the average American has little to no political involvement, but considering the people on DP tend to be more interested and/or passionate about politics I would think there would be more involvemet among the members here.

Below are the results of a 2009 Pew study, let's see how DP compares. Please select all of the options that apply to you. Because there is a ten question limit here, I have combined "Sign a petition" and "Contact a national, state or local government official about an issue" as they are fairly similar.

I boycotted the poll since it didn't include the option "whine incessantly online".

I chose almost all of them. I haven't attended a rally or given a speech. If I'm going to complain, it's going to be to someone besides myself.

Haven't given a public speech and I'm not sure what "protest" covered (no OWS or chaining myself to anything but have stood with a group holding signs).

    Re: How Involved Are You?

I attend both party caucuses but since I am a registered Libertarian, I cant vote in either caucus in our state. I used to attend the Libertarian party meetings regularly but the reality is they are just as screwed up if not more so than the two main political parties. You can only get told what a 'real' libertarian would believe so many times before you realize they are just as mindlessly ideologically driven as the rest of them. There is a reason why they dont now and likely never will have anything resembling 'representation' in elected bodies.

    Re: How Involved Are You?

I e-mail or fax my elected officials and occasionally call them. I also sign petitions, those range from putting issues on the ballot to starting recall elections.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"
