Washington, because there is a real possibility that without him we would not be a country.
We became a great nation not because we are a nation of cynics. We became a great nation because we are a nation of believers - Lindsey Graham

Hancock and Hamilton were also two other Charismatic Figures. I went with Washington as not only did he have to deal with the Military. But he had to deal with all those Egos as well as the Wealthy. Yet no matter how influential the others may have seemed. When George Spoke......he was like that E.F. Hutton of the day. Seems the likes of Jefferson and Franklin and their love of all things frilly and with lace. Became wallflowers when around Washington.

John Rolfe. Without him, there would be no Virginia, since the early settlers would have died from stupidity and cannibalism. He introduced "cash crops" to the settlers, and actually made something out of that ****ty swamp, drastically reducing the death rate, and continuing the English interest in the New World. Without that guy, there wouldn't have been an Adams, or a Franklin, or any of the others.

With the whole slaves thing? Yeah, he could've played that better.

Nevertheless, this highlights a few of the major differences between Jefferson and today's politicians:

Not only the the slave thing, but the fact that he advocated for states rights and a small, limited government, yet, as President he buys the Louisiana Purchase before even consulting Congress.

On that one I'm going to have to quote Aldo the Apache:

    Aldo: I'd make that deal.
    How about you, Utivich?
    You make that deal?

    Utivich: I'd make that deal.

    Aldo: I don't blame you.
    Damn good deal.
