I suspect that the police would be overwhelmed by theft reports on that horrible last day of liberty and freedom.....

I don't have any guns. I lost them all in a boating accident.

Every year I see us move closer not to socialism or communism but true democracy, rather than the constitutional republic we are supposed to be. The American people are getting the government they deserve.

This country is moving in a bad direction and I and my wife already have plans to leave after her retirement.

At this point all I can say is good riddance.
Your not the only one. I became disillusioned way back at the start of the Clinton years. But looking around, I don't see anyplace that I would go to. No place that I see is even remotely on the right track. America is failing, there is no doubt of that, instead of others following our leadership, we have sunken into the morass of the others. China is perhaps rising, but needs a lot of change to ever get there. Other than that, all I can see is a dark age for mankind as America fails. So, no place left to run to, all I can do is stand and fight where I am, if I am forced to.

I am 50 so I have maybe 20 to 30 years if I am lucky. So I will be in South America near the Caribbean, and I don't care if it all goes to hell. I will not be here to see it.

All the tough talk....you won't pull the trigger. When it's very real and in your face, you won't fire.

Resistance will be in the form of legal maneuvering, not violence, but if push came to shove, were there a gun ban, you wouldn't pull the trigger. You know it, I know it. You won't do it.

You seem pretty confident in that assertion.

Yup, pretty confident. When push comes to shove people will turn in their guns, because 1. most gun owners obey the law first and own a gun second (that's why we go along with registration/permits/machine-gun bans, etc), and 2. people will realize that a civil war will open the US up to our enemies and everyone on both sides of the gun issue will lose.

I'm sure there will be a few who will actually shoot a cop in the heat of the moment, and if they live through the ordeal they will sit in prison for the rest of their lives, but most will see the ban coming and turn them in.

Also, if you look at all these guns being bought in the last month, it's not because people are preparing for war against the government People are buying guns so that they can turn around and resell that gun for a profit after that kind of gun is restricted. They're trying to make money, not defend their 2A right.

No, if there was going to be bloodshed it would have happened in 1987.

I give it 50 years tops and US gun laws will look like Canada's.

I say this because of the immutable truth: Politics always trumps ideology.

Nope gun owners will not turn in their guns, well perhaps a few stupid ones will. The rest of us will lose or get or firearms stolen in mass as soon as they wanted to take them away.
There is no way that I will give up family heirlooms just because we temporarily lose the right to own firearms. Unlike Australia we would fight a legal battle to return our liberties and freedoms back to the people. And as soon as we win that battle amazingly all those missing firearms will turn up.

But I agree that most gun owners are not planing on shooting anyone in reality.

Sure, stash away your guns and pray you never get caught with them, which means you can't ever use them, not even for otherwise lawful self defense.
