Its one thing to fight a war overseas, its another to fight in and around your homes with your families at stake and targeted. That goes for both sides. Those kind of wars get into the kind of ugly you dont want to know about. One of the first things to go is normalcy. In order for the government to find those people they would have to take away civil liberty. You would not be able to come and go as you please and a whole other lot of bad things. I would not wish it on just anybody.
What I was saying is that not enough people would want to go to war over those things. Only a few extremists, and they couldn't do more than bomb a few places, and stuff like that, and would be targeted accordingly. I don't think they would greatly affect our civil liberties, they would be treated just like other domestic terrorists.

Also, if there was a rather large civil war movement in the US, there is a big difference between waging a war against your government if you are in Iraq, and Afghanistan, than trying to do so against the US. The people waging the war against the government wouldn't stand much of a chance, mainly because they wouldn't have access to the drones, and planes, and would have to give up the air, which would stop it dead in it's tracts.

On top of that, I thought Obama's second term would be more of the same, and I didn't believe those who said that in his second term he would go extreme and push crazy crap on the country... but with this talk of him creating new gun control by fiat, by Executive Order, I'm starting to worry what else may be coming down the pike.

There are people who are, right now, watching to see what happens in this latest gun control thing, who are no-fooling-dead-serious prepared to go to war if it goes too far. I'm not talking about ignorant rednecks and loud-mouth fools, I'm talking about deadly dangerous ex-military types.

I sincerely hope it doesn't come to that.
Bolding mine. I seriously doubt there will be very many Military, active or retired that would take part in such a disorganized rag tag operation. Let me ask you, how are you going to know who to shoot. How are you going to get the weapons you'll need. You'll need more then a deer rifle or a few assault rifles. Are you just gonna start shooting at the local police. How are you going to communicate with others. You can't use cell phones, they have GPS and you'll be located pretty quick, Where are you going to hide, where will you put a command post. And of course you know that as soon as you shoot the first police officer, or the first innocent neighbor, or blow up the first building you'll be considered domestic terrorists. At that point you can probably expect a late night visit from a well trained, well armed Seal Team. The best you'll be able to somewhat count are a bunch of fat, lazy ignorant loud mouth rednecks.
I confess, I did it, I let the dogs out.

If you say so, bud... you must know all about it, so I can heave a sigh of relief and quit worrying now that you've spoken.

    Er... who are you, again?

The fact is the only way someone could take over the government would be for many high ranking military officials, taking a splinter group of soldiers, and fighting against the loyal armed forces, it would not be a civilian thing, that would get shut down right away.

Re: Is the United States Nearing a Civil War?

    QUOTE code1211

There are people who believe, as I do, that the country should strive as much as possible to not be in debt and that part of the road to this goal is to have rational tax program that while being progressive, demands contributions by all.
Yet for three, out of the last four years the deficit has gone down instead of up. Go figure.

Did you feel this way when the last administrations budget went from FY 2007: $161 billion, to FY 2009†: $1,413 billion?

There are those who believe that the size of the debt makes no difference and that the need to pay taxes is the responsibility of someone else.
I believe that one of our former Vice Presidents voiced these same feelings did he not?Paraphrasing here,"debt makes no difference "

People in the former group take pride in making their own way, paying for their own living and not being a burden on others.
    As well they should.

People in the later group demand as a birth right the standard of living that they envy enough to want, but not enough to earn.

And that's unique to this administration?

Those of us who are never defined as wealthy by any politician, but have worked since they were children and have judiciously saved and planned are just a tad upset that others who lived life like a sailor on the three day leave are demanding that they reap the reward without ever making the sacrifice.
Who hasn't been making a sacrifice?

For the first time in my life, I am seriously considering buying and owning a gun. I am worried that there is trouble coming. There is only so much stupid in the world and when it runs out and the rest of the world sees that the Emperor has no clothes, we're screwed.
Go get a GUN? How about getting a weapon instead, be it rifle, are a shotgun, if thatta make you feel secure fighting the black helicopters fluttering around in your dome. But if you’re figuring that it will help in overthrowing the Unite States Government, with its drones and REAL Black-hawk helicopters…well, you would be better off moving. Might I suggest Canada; it seems that they have pretty good healthcare.
The haggardness of poverty is everywhere seen contrasted with the sleekness of wealth, the exhorted labor of some compensating for the idleness of others, wretched hovels by the side of stately colonnades, the rags of indigence blended with the ensigns of opulence; in a word, the most useless profusion in the midst of the most urgent wants.Jean-Baptiste Say

It is possible for the US to radically reform without blood being shed. Just something to consider.

This is how our government was set up.

Though I do wish we could go back to the days were fistfights were common among the congress, might help things

I like to think that we'd invade Mexico before we implode upon ourselves.
