No not really. There would be massive protesting first which we aren't seeing.

Nah.Most of those yapping civil war up never shot anything other than a target.
The haggardness of poverty is everywhere seen contrasted with the sleekness of wealth, the exhorted labor of some compensating for the idleness of others, wretched hovels by the side of stately colonnades, the rags of indigence blended with the ensigns of opulence; in a word, the most useless profusion in the midst of the most urgent wants.Jean-Baptiste Say

What will happen, if anything, is we're going to see individual sociopaths shoot police officers because they believe they are going to take their guns away. It's going to be sporadic, won't do a whole lot, except kill innocent people, and, hopefully, galvanize the gun owner community to deal with their radical elements.
I agree with that although I think some politicians might be a target as well (hopefully, Feinstein has good security).

And, for what it's worth, I wouldn't be surprised if one or more posters on DP were the perpetrators as several posters either advocated or supported potential violence against the police and politicians.

On top of that, I thought Obama's second term would be more of the same, and I didn't believe those who said that in his second term he would go extreme and push crazy crap on the country... but with this talk of him creating new gun control by fiat, by Executive Order, I'm starting to worry what else may be coming down the pike.

There are people who are, right now, watching to see what happens in this latest gun control thing, who are no-fooling-dead-serious prepared to go to war if it goes too far. I'm not talking about ignorant rednecks and loud-mouth fools, I'm talking about deadly dangerous ex-military types.

I sincerely hope it doesn't come to that.

Re: Is the United States Nearing a Civil War?

    my guess is no.

what i know for certain is that i won't be participating. i love my state, but if it were to participate due to this current status quo of hyperpartisan nonsense, i would leave.

the only way i would pull a weapon on someone is if they were hurting my pets, family, or some little kid. i'd also shoot at someone who was trying to kill me. i would not shoot at someone because i was upset about a ****ing election when there's another election coming up in four years.

    grow up, America.

This is exactly how I feel. I'm a liberal so for 8 years, I was dealing with a President who I thought was seriously hurting the country and who I wanted out of office, but I didn't threaten a damn war. I voted.

The proper way to handle a political situation that you don't like is to find a way to get your guy to win - not to kill the people you disagree with.

I care about my country, but there are things that are more important than it - people and ideals that are more important. I won't be fighting in a civil war because some people can't get their **** together.

All rather unlikely IMO, and anyone who is crazy enough to try and go to war with the government over gun control would not last long, nor have enough numbers, nor support. People's lives will continue, you will still be able to go to the store and buy food, and things would still be normal, so no widespread support would manifest.

There is a fundamental disagreement in this country and the Obama administration has crystalized it.

When the majority figures out that it can vote the wealth away from the wealthy, the wealthy will be no more and we become a banana republic.

Don't worry about the wealthy, they will be just fine living in Canada and Mexico.

In two generations, the world will wonder how the USA was ever the preeminent power in the world. Oh, well, we had a good run.

Re: Is the United States Nearing a Civil War?

Unlikely. We had an opportunity 150 years ago to settle this question once and for all. Unfortunately, after the North won the war they lost the peace and we are back to being a nation composed of some people who really don't want a central government and who would love to be able to do whatever the hell they want. The worship of the Gun and the fear and paranoia these people have over 'the gummint' coming to get them (we call them the black helicopter crowd) will always cause us problems but another civil war is unlikely.

The post directly above mine is a great example. Obama is their worst fear, primarily because he's black.
