Re: Has Chris Christy Switched Party?

I see him as speaking his mind, and see such criticism as far more valuable coming from within than if it came from without.

If this forum is any indication, I would say that there are about 50 non Christies for every Christie. Most people simply view their politics in terms of turf, and just go about the process of defending such. Very few ever criticize their own. Stupid leftists defend anything identified as left. Stupid righties defend anything identified as right. Stupid libertarians defend anything identified as libertarian.

It is up to the smart people to say "hey. wait a minute -- is this really what we should be defending?" Those are in precious short supply.

And here I thought belonging to an ideology or party was about what you you beliefs and philosophy of government...

The republican party, a gift that keeps on giving...to the democrats.

No hes a republican. Just because you criticize your party does not mean you "switched parties". And he is doing his damn job protecting his state.

This kind of nonsense is coming from the same people who think if you criticize the United States or, God forbid, think it should apologize for something, then you're no longer a "real American." It's the "you're with us or against us" crowd who don't realize how hopelessly self-defeating their outrage is.

We probably should not stop them from this self-destruction though. It is fun in some ways watching the republican party eat it's own.

Oh, I totally agree. Like I've told some on the right in other threads, "despite what you may think, this sort of behavior hurts Republicans and benefits me and others who tend to vote Democrat." It's not only fun to watch; it's nice to see them increase the Democrats' chances in winning. The funny thing is, the more people point this out, the more they engage in this self-defeating behavior. It's hilarious.

Christy is still a Republican, perhaps more so than the Teabangers hold the GOP leadership hostage, and that is perhaps the story going on behind the story. Christy ain't no dummy. He has been and remains a rising star among many conservatives who continue to believe in core Republican principles. Christy doesn't appear to be in love with the party of hate and exclusion. Sandy put him squarely in the middle of the battle. He has handled it well.

I'm not a Christy fan, but he deserves some respect. I'd like to believe that he will be part of the fight to wrestle the GOP away from the radical right, the neocons and the religionists. That is part of the battle going on within the GOP and it has been a long time coming. The outcome is anyone's guess. I'd like to believe Christy will be the kind of national leader who is willing to reach across the isle. We need that from both of the ruling parties.

I agree that he deserves respect, but I wonder if he would show the same independence of mind if someone else's state was on the line.

    Good question.

Christie is now hold press conferences to blast all Republicans in the House in Congress. Again, Democrats and the Democratic media are lavishing praises on Christie for his siding with the Democrats and now also condemning all Republicans in Congress.

This is CNN's analysis, declaring Christie's attack on Republicans in Congress is what Washington needs.

"New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie dropped a bomb on Republican House Speaker John Boehner and Congress for refusing to allow a vote on Hurricane Sandy relief in the final hours of the 112th Congress. It was an instant classic of principled political outrage. It provided a strong dose of what Washington has been missing: blunt, independent leadership."

"Pulling no punches, Christie declared: "Last night, the House majority failed most basic test of leadership and they did so with callous disregard to the people of my state. ... It was disappointing and disgusting to watch." He also unapologetically named names: "There's only one group to blame ... the House majority, and their Speaker, John Boehner." He added that the relief bill "just could not overcome the toxic internal politics of the House majority."

I pick other. Romney is a RINO who is masquerading as a conservative. Christie is just a RINO.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"
