    They should absolutely not be required, patriotism is an excellent characteristic but should only be expressed by those who want to.

    I think the USA is so vast and so divided in each state that they should be reminded that they are a single nation.

    If you are talking about the federal government...no.

    If you are talking about State or local governments...no.

    If you are talking about local school districts...yes, if they so choose.
