What Should The Drinking Age Be?

What age do you think people should be able to drink. Here in Canada most provinces are 19 except Quebec, Alberta, and Manitoba at 18. I'm going to a country where I can legally drink and it leaves the question, does it matter what the drinking age is? In my experience most people start drinking well before they are legally allowed to. I would also like to know why the U.S. has a right to guns in it's constitution but Canadians can't have alcohol considering it played a very important part in confederation. I personally believe there should be no drinking age.

16 is an acceptable age, with ages below that under supervision of the guardian and in private residence.

What do you think about adding a right to alcohol in our Charter of Rights and Freedoms since the Americans get guns in theirs?

I think some states used to have it graduated in terms of bars. Under 18 only in bars - and a low level beer. Full alcohol rights at 21. I think that's a good system.

I would make an exception for active military. For active military I think it should be legal as soon as the person becomes active military.

No, never. Material rights are and should be blanketed and are protected by Fundamental Justice. Not need to add such things to the charter when we have Section 2.

How about a minister of booze like B.C.? I imagine if prostitution and weed are legalized there, he would be The Minister of Booze, Weed, and Prostitutes. That is the most awesome title ever.

Certainly, as the sales tax the Provincial gov'ts collect off alcohol make it such a big budget item, and considering the only places you can by liquor and beer, the LCBO and Beer Store respectively, are both government run, booze definitely deserves its own spot in the Cabinet.

EDIT: Maybe even a Minister of Alcohol on the Federal level may be warranted as well.

The law in Illinois is 21.....I don't have a problem with the age being there. But I also agree with Joko Any Military People should be allowed to be served. If they are good enough to lay their lives on the lines. Then they should have the Right to Buy Alcohol and be served Alcohol.

Except Alberta, they privatized it and now they have a rising deficit.

Physiologically...probably not until the adolescent brain has fully developed...somewhere in the 24-26 year old category for men, 20-22 for women. Lots of research indicates excessive alcohol consumption can have a permanent impact on the development of several areas of the brain. Realistically...probably the age at which society has labeled them an 'adult'...18. They might as well begin being responsible for their actions and choices (as well as being held responsible for the consequences).
