Admins to the rescue, your poll is added.

Yes, and it's not just the peace prize either. Paul Krugman winning the award for some obscure work while being completely ignorant on basic economics is also a farce.

If there was any justice in the world Bradley Manning would be up for the award.

Its just as much a joke as Time magazines person of the year...

NO, the Nobel Peace Prize is not a joke.
We do have people here who are upset that their hero did not win...or that their "villain" did win..
But, why did not Gandhi win ?????

great awards
often to obscure people/organizations who deserve recognition

Ghandi was obviously an oversight
and extending one to these terrorists in '94 was beyond inappropriate: Yasser Arafat, Shimon Peres, Yitzhak Rabin

It has to be political bullcrap. Obama kills a bunch of Libyans. Truly offensive to the sensibilities. The Media doesn't seem too interested.

Obama also lied to the world claiming that the Benghazi attack was a result of a youtube video when they knew that it was actually a terrorist attack. The guy is scum.

While both the Person of the Year and Peace Prize are warrant they are being terribly mismanaged.

One peron I think of who should have won both, Malala Yousefzai.

Not Obama or the EU.

Sure, but she's been played by the War Party for propaganda. Manning, on the other hand, has been in solitary confinement because he told the truth.

i don't understand why gandhi should have won a nobel peace prize...

It is a joke now anyway for more than just who won and who didn't.

Gandhi? For non-violent protests instead of fighting? Debatable but he should have won before Arrafat... that alone makes it a joke IMO.

You forgot the European Union.

Yeah, it is a joke now.

Ghandi pretty much wanted an armed revolution and saw the 2nd WW as an opportunity to engage in that revolution because the British Empire was weak and occupied with the Axis. It was the Indian National Congress who actually supported the British and prevented Ghandi from having his way. It was because he wanted to use force, and aimed people to revolt and kill the brits that he was imprisoned in 1942... and it was thanks to the indian national congress that the whole thing didn't degenerate even further.

So if you want to give him a nobel prize, you will give him a pseudo one. Since being forced to be peaceful is not the same as wanting to be peaceful.

The Nobel prize has become pretty irrelevant imho, based on politics and BS, not on any actual objective criteria,

As to 1938, Time as I understand it names the person who either is or creates the most news, not who is the "best" person.
Time Person of the Year - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seems to me they made the right choice in 1938. Now I have never read the actual article, so I dont know if it was flatterring, embarrasing or neutral in its stance on Hitler. Hopefully negative, but lets face it im looking back with my 20/20 hindsight.
