"We are in the midst of historic cultural and demographic changes," Time managing editor Richard Stengel said in announcing its choice. "And Obama is both the symbol and in some ways the architect of this new America."

The president's reelection in November showed "the Obama effect was not ephemeral anymore, no longer reducible to what had once been mocked as that 'hopey-changey stuff,'" Time's Michael Scherer wrote in the accompanying cover story. "It could be measured in wars stopped and started; industries saved, restructured or reregulated; tax cuts extended; debt levels inflated; terrorists killed; the health-insurance system reimagined; and gay service members who could walk in uniform with their partners. It could be seen in the new faces who waited hours to vote and in the new ways campaigns are run. America debated and decided this year: history would not record Obama’s presidency as a fluke."

The cover features a silver border--just the fourth time in Time's 89-year-history the magazine was published without its trademark red. Time.com also published a slideshow featuring "never-before-seen images of the Obama presidency" from Election Night to Newtown.

Earlier this month, the magazine's online readers voted for North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as their choice for Person of the Year in what Time called a "completely unscientific" poll.

The Person of the Year, instituted in 1927, is "bestowed by the editors on the person or persons who most affected the news and our lives, for good or ill, and embodied what was important about the year." Obama was chosen as the 2008 Person of the Year following his historic election.....snip~

With all this Leading From Behind and avoiding issues. One can see just how Bias Time's Editor has become. Myself I think they Should have gave it to the Pakistani Girl who Got Shot in her Face For Trying to Learn.
I'm just glad that they are actually picking a person, rather than an occupation or people in general.
Also, we need to legalize recreational drugs and prostitution.

It seems like some people just want to trivialize any thing this great leader "President Obama" does. I wonder why?

    Thanks... "great leader"!

I needed that... it was a rough day.

6 hours on a yacht in the South Pacific... swimming with my daughters in the ocean... great take out pizza and wine...

The day was rough and I needed that laugh... as you can see, my life is full of stress.

    Great Leader!

Let me see if I understand you? You don't think the POTUS should go on vacation? Eat Pizza?Drink wine? or Swim with his family? Are there any other restrictions you would like to place on this and any future POTUS

What in the HELL are you talking about? It was me, Bodi, that spent 6 hours on a yacht in the South Pacific... was swimming with my daughters in the ocean... had some great take out pizza and wine... and you gave ME a laugh. Thank you. My life is probably immensly better than the one being lived by POTUS.

OK I am sorry you had such a bad day on a yacht swimming with your family eating pizza and drinking wine, why was it bad was the water cold or the wine bad? Do they deliver pizza to a yacht?
