Add it to the list. I don't drink, it will be no hardship on me!

I think vehicular homicides and accidental road deaths would go down if we banned automobiles too.

Care to start a list of all rights and freedoms you'd destroy if given a choice?

We need cars to get to work. We don't need assault weapons for anything. After all the gun fanatics have been telling us for years the only difference is cosmetic.

We don't "need" cars. We can take bicycles. We can take public transportation. We don't need individual vehicles. European cities get along fine when most of their populace don't own cars.

Try again.

I see you have never tried to go around North America.

Well I haven't tried to go "around" it, but I've lived here all 34 years of my life.

I could probably get around with a bike if I absolutely had to. Of course, my commute would consume every waking hour I have in my day.

But hey, I can't get in a car accident, right? It's worth it!

Sorry, I've just been mentally exhausted from oppressive, socialist argument.

Rich people are evil, let's blame guns instead of people who use them, and let's strip away all freedoms.

It'd make it easier if some people just put a swastika in their sig so there's no confusion.

Then list the exact models of guns you would ban, and why.

Here's what I believe will get passed: The only guns I have heard a ban proposed on was the gun of choice in a lot of these massacres and the gun of choice by the gangs in the US and Mexico, the assault type weapons. They will be banned for the same reasons they are the gun of choice by those wishing to kill large numbers of persons. And, it should be no hardship on gun owners as they have maintained the only difference in these guns and others legally obtained are cosmetic.

If it were my decision alone: I would go the route of the UK, where they have only 100 homicides by guns each year. But our society has not evolved to that point yet, so we will have to take baby steps.

The trouble is the U.K. is an island with no defined gun culture. The U.S. is a country where most guns in the world are manufactured and bought with a very large and stubborn gun culture that is protected in your constitution.

So...we'll ban the AR-15, and that's that? WHAT about the AR-15 makes it ban worthy? Other than, of course, the preference by criminals to use it?

Street racing is illegal, and the single most street raced model in the US are Honda's. Should they be banned as well, in order to prevent street racing?

An honest question.

And a very firm believe that government can't be trusted (despite yearly elections, campaigns, fund raisers which most contribute to, etc), and the only thing keeping them in line are personally owned firearms ( a gigantic joke, if you ask me)

Yep, they just said on the news a possible ban of the assault type gun and high capacity magazines favored by those wishing to kill large numbers of people. As I said our society is evolving slowly, its to going to take us probably centuries before we evolve enough to ban guns altogether as they did in the UK.

Both Mexico and Canada have stricter gun laws than we do. We are not having a problem with guns coming into the country from Mexico and Canada, they are having a problem with US guns coming into their country!

Doesn't answer my question. Do I gotta go back to not responding to you again?

WHY do they have an issue with guns going into their country. Please recall the basic laws of economics.

Catawba, define assault type guns?

I know I'm Canadian, you can't stop the guns in the U.S. because that is where they are made and the culture is cemented. Here we will never ban all guns because hunting and sport shooting is a thing there is no reason to ban that, it's the same in Scandinavian countries you know the bastion of social democracy. I am for banning anything above a hunting rifle or shotgun including handguns which is what we have.

Catawba, define assault type guns?

"Assault weapons are routinely the weapons of choice for gang members and drug dealers. They are regularly encountered in drug busts and are all too often used against our officers. In fact, one in five law enforcement officers slain in the line of duty between January 1, 1998, and December 31, 2001, was killed with an assault weapon, according to "Officer Down," a report from the Violence Policy Center. The weapons in question—including the Colt AR-15, a semiautomatic version of the M-16 machine gun used by our armed forces, the Uzi, and the Tec-9 pistol, whose manufacturer's advertisements hailed its "fingerprint-resistant" finish—have been used in countless murders such as the Stockton schoolyard and Columbine High School shootings.

Opponents of the assault weapons ban often argue that the ban only outlawed certain weapons because of their "cosmetic features" and not because they are inherently more dangerous than other weapons. This is simply not true."

Cultures change over time. Evolution is a slow process, especially when so many here misunderstand the 2nd amendment..

Yes exactly so stop trying to force change it will make evolution even longer.

So, you define assault type weapons as being those preferred by criminals? There are no other descriptor or criteria? All I'm trying to do is narrow down exactly the characteristics of certain guns we want banned.

Yes exactly so stop trying to force change it will make evolution even longer.

Societal evolution is slower if people just sit and accept the violence around them.

Vast majority people that play these games live on their lives as law abiding citizens, not shooting up public places. The issue isn't COD, Halo, or the latest gory movie, no, it's people with a few screws loose.
