Just because parents allow their kids to play games rated for mature, doesn't mean the ratings are wrong.
A lot of parents just don't give a crap.

They exist as guidelines only. Everything released commercially is rated by the ESRB for games or by the Motion Picture Association of America for movies. These are used as guidelines only and that is how they should be.

The ESRB rating system is here,

Well that system is obviously not working. Time for a different system.

    why?

the rating system only stops a kid of a certain age from personally buying it not their parents from buying it and giving it to them, besides this would do nothing in reality anyway

It's not that I am any more accepting that anyone else. It's that I don't support punishing the many innocent for the crimes of the few. Sorry, but you're not going to be successful at trying to put a guilt trip on me- I don't play that game.

Most violent video games are rated M for "mature" which is comparable to an R rating on a movie. In some states you must be 18 to purchase these games. Ultimately though if a parent doesn't want their child playing a more violent video game they, as parents, can remove the game from the home or not purchase it for their children in cases where minors cannot buy them.

What are your suggestions for reducing the needless slaughter of thousands of innocent people each year?
