If my pistol never gets fire except at the range, I would definitely be happy with that.

The thing with simplistic answer are that they are usually wrong. The right answer isn't really in your list, so I went with the closest, society in general. We don't properly address mental illness, we have a love affair with violence and guns, we avoid difficult conversations by trying to create an us versus them relationship, and we've done this with nearly every issue, leaving the those most in need of help without it.

AUSTAN GOOLSBEE: I think the world vests too much power, certainly in the president, probably in Washington in general for its influence on the economy, because most all of the economy has nothing to do with the government.

thank you for making my case, squire

that absence of more than mere blurbs in the media certainly did not quell the ongoing violence, did it

The shooters. Even if there is an underlying problem, or the shooter is reacting emotionally to a stressor, nobody forces the shooter to act.

I put most of the blame on the shooters. The rest of the blame is on gun free zones for disarming law abiding citizens and the media who keeps providing incentive for pathetic losers by making instant celebs out them for shooting unarmed innocent people.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

    Cicero Marcus Tullius
