If there was a proposed Constitutional Amendment which repealed the 2nd Amendment right to have a gun but that would also ban all abortion except when the fetus has already died or the mother would die within 24 hours of natural causes if an abortion was not performed, would you vote for it (why or why not)?

abortion rights are not less important than gun rights ,in my opinion..

moreover ,it is more important.

Where do people come up with these crazy what if scenarios?

Perhaps from all the pieces of legislation in Congress that have been taken off the table because of abortion language being added or removed from them. I didn't invent the hat trick, but it is old school politics that our representatives have been dealing with for years, so it would be interesting to see how folks with a 6% approval rating for Congress would deal with it. (and some people think abortion is killing unborn children so it is kind of related to the gun control thing on a macro level).

No, because the issue of guns rights and the issue of reproductive rights are mutually exclusive.

Nope, that much government would be wholly dangerous.

The issue of rights is not mutually exclusive of other rights, nor is the issue of protecting life. It is an interesting exercise to help people clarify their thinking IMHO.

Sometimes I think the "killing" issues reflect our National Psyche. We have killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. How many Afghans? How many children, including our sanctions policies. Then there are the drones and they can legally "kill" USA citizens. Then there are the trigger happy police forces and you only have to have witnessed last year's Occupy protests to be aware of that mentality. No focused dreams promoted by our institutions of learning. Make money, buy lots of things, eat good, enjoy. Wowser. Banning guns and abortions isn't going to address this issue. I'm against abortions as birth control, but I'm not female, so it's not really my place to decide that.

It has nothing to do with clarifying the thinking of people. It's just a lame way to try to justify making abortion illegal, which is a right-wing cause, by compromising on a left-wing cause, which is expanded gun control. And, in doing so, totally ignores all the issues related to gun control as well, as well as expanded issues of reproductive rights, such as access of birth control.

Yes, this is a great compromise-- take the two issues I care most about and get both of them absolutely wrong.

That is perhaps because you want to take away somebody else's rights and not give up any of your own. The other side feels just as strongly for the rights they defend, as you do the rights you defend. Why would somebody ever want to compromise their rights for your will if you are not willing to compromise your rights for theirs? If someone is not willing to give up their abortion rights to stop the killing of innocent children as they claim to be doing in going after gun rights, it is very telling just as it would be for someone not being willing to give up their gun rights to stop abortion. 15 No's and Zero Yes's at this point, it proves something. It is just a matter of deciding exactly what that is.

Offtopic: The premise of this thread is top 5 dumbest things I read today.

Ontopic: I'm not an american citizen but I would not vote for the repeal of the 2nd amendment. It is there for a reason... to give citizens the power to fight the governmnent in case the government wants to take people's rights.

I already explained.

140 people did mass killings this year in the USA. Out of the weapons used, half were legally obtained, no more. Half.

Out of 100 mil gun owners it means that the number of people who did mass killings are less than 0.000001% of the total number of people who own guns.

Why take the rights of 100mil people, and the rest of the 200mil who have the right but didn't use it, because of 140 psychopaths. Do you not understand that by doing that, the PSYCHOPATHS WIN. They win. Criminals will continue to get guns illegally but you can't. They win. You, the law biding citizen, lose.

By that logic, why should a woman give up the rights to her own body for the rights of a fetus?

Which still has nothing to do with gun control.

I am adamantly opposed to abortion.I think abortion should only be legal to save the life the mother. But repealing the 2nd amendment would have far greater consequences. the intent of the 2nd amendment is to preserve a free state, its not for hunting, its not for defending against criminals. Its for the people to have the means to defend against the government should it become too tyrannical.

We already have laws against killing. The most deadly school massacre in US history was in 1927 and used explosives. Humans are a violent animal - always have been and always will be. The sooner we accept that and support only laws that address the root problem (such as mental health, dangerous psychoactive drugs, etc). The better off we'll all be.

This is more or less my position as well, though I could be agreeable to some very limited restrictions like no internet sales of rifles with more than a 5 shot capacity as purchased; and a mental health and criminal database that would include people who have come into contact with mental health, medical, or law enforcement with violence components. I am very divided on things like dum-dum's though.

Would I be happy with having some rights stripped from me if other rights were also stripped from me?

Yeah...uh...no.
