I think a lot of conservatives were desperate enough to vote for him anyway.

I would have voted for a dead armadillo over obama. But I know lots of "corporate" Republicans who thought Paul was goofy

Bismarck created the first system of 'socialized' health care in history.

Health Insurance Act of 1883 - ImagineWiki

Was Bismarck a conservative? Absolutely. Was he vastly more rational, more level-headed, more far-seeing than anyone in American conservative politics today? Absolutely.

That, as well as the disability act (or whats it called, the other healthcare bill), is proof that the road to universal healthcare was not thanks to socialism, but to conservatives and liberals (especially in England).

So to say 'socialized' in the context that socialism did nothing to advance the concept of healthcare to any great lengths... is a bad use of words to say nothing more.

Universal healthcare is a good thing. It is not a leftist thing. It is a good thing that is implemented with great success and effect in many, very capitalist, very free, very anti-far left socialism countries.

It's the kind of attitude that guarantees Democratic supremacy in Presidential elections for the forseeable future. May it never, ever change.

And its your kind of attitude that guarantees that Democrats will piss it away ;)

Unlikely, Dole would have had a better chance and that is saying something.

Santorum would have been the candidate to kill off apathy in the voter pool. People would have gotten off their deathbeds to vote against him.

Romney definitely did that. His 47% remarks pissed off a lot of people. I have no doubt a lot of people got out and voted against him because of that who otherwise wouldn't have.

Santa Claus and his parasites, such are the self stroking rants of the wealthy entitled class.

It is going to be a long 4 years for some, even longer if Hillary decides to run.

I think that cost him a great many votes, yes. Cost him the election? Maybe, maybe not. I'm not sure he would have won enough key states even without this 47% scandal.

Thing is, though, he wasn't wholly wrong or incorrect in his comments. Some of it was/is true, and needed to be said by somebody. It just wasn't popular and wasn't what people wanted to hear.
