The left needs to unite in this country if they want to see any actual progress when it comes to elections.
Oh, how I'd like to see that - a leftist version of the Tea Party movement is past due. But the problem I see is the weight the term "socialist" carries. Our country being a primarily right leaning one(within mainstream politics), the term tends to be associated with mass murderers, as opposed to folks like Harrington and movements in Europe and Central America.

That's an issue having a movement like the tea party would solve.

    I agree 100%.
I believe Chomsky put it best with the term "socialism" and what historical significance it carries and how he defines "socialism" is spot on.

If a significant number of people more closely associated with a minor party platform, they would not be minor parties. Personally, while I do not agree 100 % with the democratic party platform, it is much closer to my views than that of any other party platform.

At this point, I'm more frightened of the moderate statists in both parties than I am of the far left.

I don't 'know' you, so it's hard to tell if that was facetious, or not. But, in any case, just look at what the Tea Party's done. It's given a banner for those on the far right to unite under, changed the tone of public policy, reshaped the RNC - in all practical terms, it's been a hugely successful movement.

That's what I'm saying having one for socialists could have the same effect and correct all the negativity around socialism.

I have yet to find one of either variety that I agree with enough to latch onto.
