(Note: I could have put many more options in the poll, but they are limited to ten entries.)

Victimless crimes are defined as crimes "where there is no apparent victim and no apparent pain or injury." Many such acts are on the books in many countries, including the United States.

What are some victimless crimes that should be decriminalized or outright legalized?

EDIT: Crap, I forgot to make the poll multiple choice. Can a mod please do that?

Pretty much all of those can be argued to inflict some injury upon someone. Voluntary incest that does not conceives a child may be the only one that escapes.

A true victimless crime is that of a pirate who steals software or music who wasn't going to buy it anyways. There is no lost sale because no sale was going to happen. Therefore, the potential victim has never been violated as they are in the same position they were before. Furthermore, if in terms of music causes the pirate to actually go to a concert, there's a clear benefit there.

Making the poll multiple choice is not something I am able to do. Admins might be able to, but I do not have the tools.

I think Prostitution and Polygamy are the two that are Victimless crimes...

Prostitution was the only one I voted for. The rest of them? Are you nutz??

Assuming you get a new thread, you might want to specify in the first post whether or not all people involved would be consenting adults.

Historically this is not the case. Polygamy in both the Mormon and Islamic worlds have led to horrific crimes against women and young boys. And Prostitution, legal and otherwise is directly related to human trafficking and physical and verbal abuse.

Safe sex adultery where both partners encourage it is a victimless crime.

Depends on the circumstances as to whether I would call it victimless or not though I don't think adultery is a crime anymore.

Three liberals and a libertarian in this thread and there are ZERO votes for drug possession as a victimless crime???

Hyperbole much?

Drug possession aids drug use and production. Possession and use are functionally, in this context the same thing. Want to find me a liberal or libertarian who wants to argue that drug use is a victimless crime that impacts no one other than its user?

Note, you'll have to find someone who argues the costs of that drug use are not borne by family, friends and society in medical costs and economic losses. Good luck.

Actually could argue polygamy has victims if they have children according to some but I don't believe it.

Considering how hundreds of thousands of women are enslaved to feed the world's prostitution market annually, I find it incredibly difficult to argue prostitution is a victimless crime.

And Warren Jeffs proved that polygamy is hardly victimless. Islamic Polygamy has led to neglect and abuse of wives.

What about normal polygamists that aren't religious extremists. They have great lives why shouldn't it be legal. I also want prostitution in brothels legal aswell which actually did get passed. U.S. sates legalize weed, Ontario legalizes brothels.

I dunno about legal, but in their case it may not be a victimless crime, but historically, polygamy has led to some pretty horrific abuses.

Prostitution can be done properly, but even in legal areas in the EU there is still rampant abuses of women.

1. Why they don't harm anyone and they one of the nicest elementary schools in the country where they have parent-parent-parent teacher interviews.
2. Bouncers usually good at solving that problem.

Traffic violations are not victimless crimes.
I think that depends on a lot of factors. If there are no other cars on the road and no passengers it's pretty much only the driver of a vehicle at risk. I get your point about endangerment by ignoring laws in peak traffic though.

Well here you have to pay a victims tax no matter what.

That sucks, I've never heard of a victims tax in my life. Is it a "just because" kind of thing or is there a money pool to pay for damages?

Here on all traffic tickets there is a victims tax that goes into a fund to help the victims of traffic accidents. I think it was started when after a horrendous accident where I think more than 10 people were killed and dozens injured, people started needing help paying for PTSD therapy.

Why can we only choose one?

All of these crimes have a victim, whether the victim realizes they are a victim or not. I think that is where the real issue is. Most victims don't even realize they are victims.
