How about teaching men to control themselves??
I didn't work vice, but I'm told that the majority of "johns" (customers of prostitutes) are married men who are not getting their needs met at home by the wife.

And what would that be pray..
Come now, lets not be willfully obtuse... sex of course.
I am not saying "it is all wifeys fault" but from what I hear most johns are dissatisfied married men.
Hey, I wonder what they call "Johns" in Scandinavian countries.... Johans? :lamo
So that must mean that men cannot control their sexual urges???
Well dear, from what I've seen women are not too good at controlling theirs either.
I don't know where you have been...
In the world. I've known almost as many unfaithful women as unfaithful men, so let's not pretend it is all one sided.
I lived in Amsterdam for 5 years..there are the women in windows..dressed like miss whiplash..sexy blonde..black(try me for a change)..Grannies etc..
I have never seen the female equivalent..

I didn't say women were as inclined to resort to prostitutes. I said they were nearly as inclined to be unfaithful. They just go about it differently.
I think that may be that ''raw'' sex is abhorrent to many women..
Ummm that is because if a woman wants some strange all she needs to do is slip off the ring and go to any bar. Hell if she plays her cards right she won't have to pay for her drinks either...
But while there maynot be any male brothels near you, rest assured there are men who whore out... google 'gigolo'
So why is it such a secret then...not standing in shop windows wearing just their pants ??
Or are men too ashamed to be classed as a whore?
You are either VERY young or very sheltered... it isn't a secret, just not the same demand for man whores. Like I said, a great many married woman doesn't need to pay for a sex partner, just a quiet place to fish.
Prostitution is the a social construct where people who can't get what they want for free, or a few drinks and dinner, can pay someone for the service. Few women need to pay a partner for what they want.
Course as a fellow in a movie once asked, "Do you know why you pay a whore?"
"You pay her to LEAVE!"
Many men have to pay for no strings attached sexual relief, most women don't.
Prostitution is completely legal here in Germany. You could go to a whore house or call one up in the phone book for a home visit. As a result, it's OFF the streets and far less common than you'd think. Something being legal does not mean that every person will throw out their morals or relationships.I haven't made my mind up on this honestly. On one hand, while I don't morally agree with it, I do believe 2 adults should be able to consensually exchange money for any service they please. However, if prostitution is made legal, I'm not confident the gov't could put the proper restrictions and laws in place to prevent it from running rampant on the streets. Imagine street walkers soliciting in front of Toys R Us or Macy's during Christmas. That would be awful IMO. I'm not someone who's going to pin their beliefs on confidence in the gov't to do something competently either lol.

Legalize it. Regulate it. Tax it.
Outlawing it and driving it into the shadows gives power to the pimps, makes it easier to abuse the women (and some men), and increases the likelihood of underage prostitutes and transmission of diseases.
When legalized the prostitutes no longer need to pay protection money to pimps, thus allowing them to keep more, or all, of their profits. They can feel safe in going to the police if they need to and they can be required to undergo frequent STD screenings.
As for the complaint that it commodifies women (and let's not forget their are plenty of male prostitutes out there as well), well, yeah, in some ways it does commodify that particular person. They are renting out their body and services for a period of time.
But so do strippers, and models, and construction workers, and police, and soldiers, firefighters, crab fisherman, janitors.....
Seriously, when I hire a mechanic to work on my car, I am not all that interested in him as a person. I want a service from him and I am going to pay him for it. When our transaction is done I probably won't give him a second thought.
I can already hear people thinking "No, it isn't the same, because prostitutes are often forced into this dangerous line of work and can't get out."
Sure, but that is most likely to happen when it is criminalized. Legalize and it becomes just another service industry. As a feminist I am annoyed by this infantilizing of women that our culture is fond of, claiming that women aren't capable of making their own choices and that they shouldn't have dominion over their own bodies.
