Will we go over the Fiscal Cliff

No deal struck by January 1?

    No deal post-dating itself?

A "band-aid" is about all we can expect from the pathetic Congress that we are stuck with. And problems will continue until true campaign and campaign finance reform occur.

Re: Will we go over the Fiscal Cliff

The "cliff" is real tax increases (accross the board) getting rid of all of the "Bush" tax cuts, all of the Obama "temporary" tax cuts to SS withholding and removing the unemployment insurance "loans" to the states. The "cliff" is real spending cuts and does nothing to reform 2/3 of the budget - entitlement spending and interest on the national debt. It still leaves a huge federal deficit as well. I believe that neither party wants those real spending cuts so they will "compromise" invent a "deal" and continue to borrow and spend (kick the can down the road) and "promise" that a real deal is near. One must remember that taxing "the rich" happens either way (the "cliff" or the Obama "compromise") so what "compromise" is that really? USA, USA, USA...

i don't have a crystal ball, but if it follows the historical narrative, we'll see a punt in December and a watered down compromise next year. this compromise will avert the crisis for now, but only enough that congress and the president can pat themselves on the back for passing a bipartisan "grand bargain."

I suspect that a minor deal of some sort will be agreed upon, and no real changes will be made, then the dog and pony show will go on as always, until there is absolutely no choice left, but to take a Thelma and Louise-style crash.

I predict the "minor deal" scenario that'll punt the problem down the road.

Eventually, we'll hit that "Vanishing Point".

Hope I'm wrong... but I think we're in waterfall mode. Not sure hardhats will help, but it's definitely time to tighten that life-jacket. Chances are good we're all going into the brink together... thanks to President Twitter for once again failing to lead.

At least Romney knew how to get more done for less. As president he could have off-shored government jobs to those willing to work for half the price and saved us taxpayers a boatload of money.

Wonder how many govt workers would go for that? Hell, they'd pass out if they were told they had to actually WORK for 40 hrs in a row, much less cut their salaries and move 'em off-shore!

The can will be kicked down the road until the system collapses, then the bloodshed will begin.
