There are an estimated 12 million unemployed Americans and an estimated 8 million illegals working in the US. If Americans are so willing to work their job, why is there a need for 8 million illegals who would bring you huge fines if you get caught hiring them?

Because their chances of getting caught are probably not very high, and they save a ton of money paying those illegal workers crappy wages.

Not so much. Most do quite well. Like I said, I work with them daily. One who came here not speaking a word of a English went to law school and MIT. He's given back quite a lot. Another learned English watching tv and s now a hospital administrator. Others are nurses, police officers, factory managers, and everything else you can think of. Most work hard and give back.

AUSTAN GOOLSBEE: I think the world vests too much power, certainly in the president, probably in Washington in general for its influence on the economy, because most all of the economy has nothing to do with the government.

Because there ISN'T a need for those illegals. That 8-20 million came in over time, decades. Some jumped the border, some overstayed visas. Then many smuggled their families up (since we weren't deporting them). They didn't come here for a specific job, so they weren't "needed". They came largely to find work and set up a life in a country with services because they knew, if they managed to stay long enough we'd lose the will to deport the asshats.

Provide me with some statistics and then I'll believe you. Your maybe true/maybe not personal anecdotes do not count.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having certain qualifications for people to enter the country and become legal citizens. It is in no way racist or bigotry. If we were to say that a certain ethnic group was not allowed to enter the country BECAUSE of their ethnicity, that would be racist. Expecting people to be able to adequately integrate into the community and contribute to the economy is not racist.

Is it racist to ask immigrants to speak English (or whatever language the country they immigrated to speaks) when in public places?
Not inherently. If you can't communicate with the people in your new society you aren't going to get far in life, and people aren't going to waste their time trying to figure out what you're saying.
I love the NSA. It's like having a secret fan-base you will never see, but they're there, watching everything you write and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing that I may be some person's only form of unconstitutional entertainment one night.
