Mitt Romney's loss creates GOP leadership vacuum - Yahoo! News

I have seen similar type articles several times since the election, and I really don't know how much credence to give them. So who is the leader of the party now. I would ask that only republicans and conservatives(libertarians count too) actually vote in the poll since I am not interested in who us democrats and liberals see as their leader. Who is the leader, with the most influence on the direction of the party?

Reince Priebus
John Boehner
Mitch McConnell
Paul Ryan
Grover Norquist

Pretty obvious to me anyway its Boehner and to a lesser degree McConnel but that will be short lived

Heh..Ive given that some thought lately...It wont be any of the obvious I dont believe meaning...Ryan,or christie certainly not a Grover Norquist or the gov or louisiana Jindel..You may see Polenti..I think I spelled that wrong...for the life of me I cant remember the guys name that was in primary didnt do well blondish hair more libertarian..he impressed me as a logical thinking middle of the road kind of guy..Gary something was it ? damn I hate this....DUH...It just popped in my head..Jon Huntsman

Re: Who Is The Current Leader of the Republican Party?(republicans/Conservatives only

Gary Johnson.

I think it was huntsman that im thinking off..I have to go look at a picture..heh..getting old..

The gop is at a make or break as I see it...they had better realize that in 15-20 yrs the largest block of white voters who will not be replaced will be gone thats ME the babyboomers...we will not be replaced by as large a white group. The gop can no longer win on the white vote with a few women and minorities...The way I see it they have to change now they cant wait till were dead and gone. thats only my opinion now and not gospel lol

Re: Who Is The Current Leader of the Republican Party?(republicans/Conservatives only

Ok Its huntsman that impressed me as a reasonable inteligent guy..social liberal and fiscally conservative...I dont know how those two ideals will mesh together in real application though...they seem to oppose each other

Re: Who Is The Current Leader of the Republican Party?(republicans/Conservatives only

There are "senior" members of both parties but I think it is very rare for the party out of the White House to have a clear leader.

Re: Who Is The Current Leader of the Republican Party?(republicans/Conservatives only

Redress wants a name of who we think will actually take over...and I dont see how we can really even assume who at this point.

Re: Who Is The Current Leader of the Republican Party?(republicans/Conservatives only

I have never considered Mitt Romney a GOP leader, he sort of won by default in the GOP presidential primary. The GOP has many better presidential propects, but that does not necesserily make them become the party leaders. Party leadership is a full time job just as running for (or being) president is, so one person can not wear both hats effectively. As far as the 2016 GOP presidential race I favor Jindal, Rubio or Haley as good possibilities. The GOP, IMHO, has to get off of the social issues and focus on the economy and returning the federal gov't back to its Constitutionally limitted powers. A good start is real FIT reform, entitlement (SS/Medicare) reform, immigration reform and getting rid of DOEd completely, scaling back all 83 federal "welfare" programs into a single federal entity and reducing it (by about 75%) to become a truely temporary safety net, not a way of life.

I wouldn't really consider any of them to be a clear leader. Of those, I think Boehner probably would be the closest to it.

Re: Who Is The Current Leader of the Republican Party?(republicans/Conservatives only

I think in a technical sense John Beohner is the leader of the Republican Party as he is the highest ranking Republican in the country.

No, I am more asking if any one person is now the clear leader of the party. In the absence of such a person, then who will take over.

Boehner presently in his absense...McConnell at this point...in my mind there is no clear leader aside from boehner and Mconnell by virtue of their seniority in their positions.
I think the primary and the election destroyed alot of chances for some to move up in prominence, like Ryan and Christie.
Jindal in my mind has to many obstacles to climb...I guess my best answer is I just dont know after those two right now.

Rep party as of now is not only rudderless but their mast has snapped and the boat is listing heavily to the side in heavy seas.

Re: Who Is The Current Leader of the Republican Party?(republicans/Conservatives only

Boehner is the closest to a leader of the party, amost by default, and he's an embattled leader of a fractured group. To such a point I can't honestly call him the true "leader" at this moment. I think "no one's" probably closer to accurate than Boehner

Re: Who Is The Current Leader of the Republican Party?(republicans/Conservatives only

I can tell you two senior GOP members who would like to be the leader of the Republican party: Lindsay Graham and John McCain. I have no personal opinion about either's party leadership abilities other than to point out that it would take immense effort on their part to be worse than the "current" leadership has been.

Re: Who Is The Current Leader of the Republican Party?(republicans/Conservatives only

I would like to know who the official leader of the U.S. political parties are. Here the leaders are elected and stay leader for multiple elections due to the frequency of elections, usually till they retire or their death. Having no term limits also helps.

The one I see closest to the leader is John Boehner, however I don't really see him as the leader. I think it's kind of up for grabs at this point. He's the one that I have been hearing the most about recently and he does hold the highest position out of the Republican party.

The party has numerous leaders, but in the wake of defeat, like any Party, finding the most appropriate leader/spokesperson is more difficult. Boehner and McConnnell are obvious choices for those with the most power.
