Are you willing to give up you social security to end the new deal?

Are you willing to give up your social security to end the new deal?

Now I know since I'm younger that this is an easier question for me but for older members of society would you be willing to end this ridiculous plan? I'm sorry it's a damn albatross around the neck of the economy, and the government has no bussiness in wealth redistribution; if I'm broke when i'm old then that's my fault not the next generations I mean shouldn't you have to atleast serve the government before you get entidlements, IE veteran benefits? (no ****ing with them.) I feel if one has sacrificed his blood for America then his treasure should never be spent by Americans (blood and treasure) BTW all of our treasure would be traded for one speck of American blood.

it seems to me that the best way to deal with this is to say that everyone over 45 will continue to be eligable for SS benifits, but no one else will be. everyone will continue paying taxes into it until all those 45 year olds die. something to that effect at least. I'm not sure what the demographic projections say about how that would be funded.

False dichotomy. We can end SS without forcing people who have paid into the system to completely give it up. Here's a few ways we can save money.

    1. Stop SS taxes immediately, so that our government doesn't accumulate any more SS liabilities.
    2. Declare that no one currently under 35 will ever receive retirement benefits from SS.
    3. Immediately raise the retirement age to 68.
    4. Immediately end SS payments to anyone with a household income of over $100,000.
    5. Reduce SS benefits on a scale based on age.

However, all of the cost-cutting methods won't change the fact that no new SS revenue will be coming in. So to pay for this, we're going to have to either cut other fat out of the federal budget (The Depts. of Education/HUD/Commerce look juicy), or we're going to have to sell some unused government land of which there is plenty.

current taxes pay for current SS benefits. stopping SS taxes is effectively eliminating the entire program.

What is the function of the government people? It is to protect the rights of the people and nothing else.

Re: Are you willing to give up you social security to end the new deal?

The easiest solution is to simply raise the cap on which social security taxes are levied. Of course, the rich Bush supporters want nothing to do with that.

Someone who makes 1 million a year might have to pay $57,000 into S.S, something they could easily afford.

Right now, 14% of elderly women are living in poverty...take away that S.S. check and we're looking at close to 50%! This is America...we're supposed to be better than that.

The easiest solution...STOP RAIDING THE S.S. TRUST FUND!!!

Re: Are you willing to give up you social security to end the new deal?

I get so tired of the "the rich can easily afford it so make them pay more" argument.

whether they can afford it or not is completely irrelevant.

and yes, I will gladly give up my SS. odds are, at the current pace I wont be able to get it untill im 85 anyway.
    !!! 7000+ Americans DEAD !!!
(3,000 on 9/11 due to 8 years of innaction by democrats........ 2,800+ in Iraq due to the actions of terrorists supported by democrats. 1,600 in Katrina mainly in a state and city run by, you guessed it, democrats)
National debt: $8.18 Trillion and counting due to fighting wars the democrats refused to fight.
Osama bin Laden still on the loose after the democrats allowed him to plan and carry out the biggest attack ever on American soil.

Re: Are you willing to give up you social security to end the new deal?

There is nothing to give up. I paid into social security every month that I worked. I am not getting a dole, I am only getting what I paid for. I worked from 1960 to the day I retired in 2004. I was never unemployed. Every drop of Social Security that I get, I earned and paid for. Bush wants to use the social security fund that amounts to many billion to pay for his little private war. I say Bu___ Sh_t. to Bush. The financial Crisis comes from Bush War, and him wanting to give give the medicare fund to his corporate buddies.
Tell Bush to get our troops out of Iraq and let the Iraqis fight their civil war which he started. Sadam had that country under control until Bush and the Oil Companies invaded. There were no terrorist from Iraq killing Americans until Bush invaded.

and that millionaire should get far more back then. You dems already have enough income redistributionist schemes with the death tax and the progressive income tax.

If you want the rich to keep paying more and more, they need to get more and more say in how the government is run. say another vote for every 1000 dollars in additional Federal income tax paid
