We could do a "Logan's Run" kind of thing -- if someone is too old to work, and doens't have enough money to support themselves, put them in the exterminator. That would save a bunch of money. And we wouldn't have the crones begging in the street problem.

Yes, but the government still has liabilities to those who have paid into the system, even if it doesn't recognize it as a liability on the books. It's the reason that we can't just completely abolish SS suddenly without major consequences. People would (rightly) feel that they've been cheated out of their own money.

Well, the end result would be the same whether we simply replenish the SS trust fund or whether we follow my plan and keep paying out SS but don't pay in. Either way, it won't be cheap but it will be necessary.

The only difference would be that my plan would ensure that this wouldn't happen again, because there wouldn't be SS in the long term.
    Are you coming to bed?
    I can't. This is important.

I agree that SS taxes should be eliminate and Govt expenditures funded by income taxes.

National debt: $8.18 Trillion and counting due to fighting wars the democrats refused to fight.
Osama bin Laden still on the loose after the democrats allowed him to plan and carry out the biggest attack ever on American soil.

I suppose ability to pay would not be an issue to a "let's bring back feudalism" conservative.

Forty years ago I was allowed to opt out of Social Security. I did. Instead of paying the tax, the money went into investments. Where I worked we discontinued the mismanaged pension and went with a 401k. I retired now, no pension, no Social Security, and I'm quite happy.

Tell Bush to get our troops out of Iraq and let the Iraqis fight their civil war which he started. Sadam had that country under control until Bush and the Oil Companies invaded. There were no terrorist from Iraq killing Americans until Bush invaded.

This is unnacceptable. I don't care for Bush but this is just outrageous.
