Red, white, blue (please, note the flags)... English language... capitalism... culture... etc.

Can America be considered a British child?
:2razz:

Yeah, but also like a failed abortion.

In a lot of ways yes. In a lot of ways....no. Hope I could clear the confusion.

I see - it's red, white and blue but in different shapes.

Nope, not really. They dont even speak English right.

Are you for real?

The answer is clearly in a lot of ways no. In a lot of ways...yes.

Spanish will soon be the national language in America. Can't come a moment too soon.

And Canada the grandchildren.

Of course we are.

Technically, we don't speak English right. They started English, even the name English is derived from England.

Humor is difficult on the internets.

I said kinda. we fought them for our freedom but even then there were many other immigrants here from other countries.

Actually we are that little brother that you always picked on and wasn't very successful when compared to his older brother but then the older brother started using drugs and went to jail. The little brother is now on top.

Even this isn't a clear thing.

When the American Revolution started, the reason why they began revolting was because they wanted to exercise their rights as Englishmen. That is, they wanted to have a say in the government process of Parliament, by either having some seats allocated to them or by having their own American Parliament in which the British monarch remains head of state.

But a radical faction of American colonists agitated for complete revolution, not just restoration of rights and privileges. And this faction eventually won out as hostilities increased.

Good point as usual

We have some common ancestors, but I think the US is a good deal more German in its ways and attitudes. The original people who went over there didn't like it here, and fought against their king to save their rich from paying taxes, which is a point of view, but not very British - and you are far more socially conformist, I think, than anyone much here.

if i'm a British kid, can i get single payer health care?

Under certain circumstances, yes.

I know you were kidding but my uncle from Montana did benefit from the NHS during a visit to the UK.

Kind of. A lot of American politics and government is inspired from the British system.

Yes, but we ran away from home as teenagers.
