Dont understand those who watch it. Unfortunately America has taken the disease as well as the western world. Although Processed foods and reality tv seem to go hand in hand here...
Well it's kinda just like processed foods. Processed foods are cheap to make, people will buy them. You can sell them cheap so more people buy them but you don't need everyone to buy them in order to turn a good profit. Processed foods are the lowest common denominator. The same with reality TV. It's exceptionally cheap to make, you'll get ad revenue, you don't need to earn as much money to turn a great profit as compared to a show that spends a lot of money to create an actual show. So even if it gets lowish ratings, you'll still turn a dollar. And some of those shows for some reason explode and you make a **** ton of money.

It appears that the lowest common denominator is easiest to spread because of its ease to make and ease to adapt to different markets.

The only comedy I can laugh at that exclusively stars women. Kind of have to understand the Cult of Thatcher and Britain in the 80s to get it though.
