More of a country cousin rather than a child of.

There is no proper English anymore... that was the point and why I made a sarcastic comment about the majority.

Dont know where you got that fromOpinion not really justifiable An American's Guide to British Beer

Thanks to Americas "innovations" half the country lives off of fast food and Processed foods.

And thanks to British "innovation" I'm left with Big Brother knock offs, American Idol, America Has Talent, etc. If anyone is at fault for a larger travesty its your side's invention of reality TV.

And the other thing is British rhyming slang. I had a roommate from London who I couldn't understand half the time. Why the hell are stairs called apples? Because it's apples and pears and pears rhymes with stairs. That's just rude, you'll never keep a language by making things like that up.

The most frequently cited example—although it is almost never employed by current users[2]—involves the replacement of "stairs" with the rhyming phrase "apples and pears". Following the usual pattern of omission, "(and) pears" is then dropped and "stairs" becomes "apples"; this is deciphered as "apples" > "apples and pears" > "stairs". Thus the spoken phrase "I'm going up the apples" means "I'm going ['up the stairs'/'upstairs']".In similar fashion, "telephone" is replaced by "dog" (= 'dog-and-bone'); "wife" by "trouble" (= 'trouble-and-strife'); "eyes" by "minces" (= 'mince pies'); "wig" by "syrup" (= 'syrup of figs') and "feet" by "plates" (= 'plates of meat'). Thus a construction of the following type could conceivably arise: "It nearly knocked me off me plates—he was wearing a syrup! So I got straight on the dog to me trouble and said I couldn't believe me minces."

I like Monty Python. British TV can be quite brilliant at times, and I doubt I'll ever get enough Dr. Who. I watch my fair share of British TV. But some of it is a huge miss like Absolutely Fabulous and Are You Being Served.

That "rhyme" is the Graceful and wonderful dialect called cockney (note the sarcasm) and also reality TV is a disease that needs to be purged, Honestly its bulls**t. Dont understand those who watch it. Unfortunately America has taken the disease as well as the western world. Although Processed foods and reality tv seem to go hand in hand here...

Great, now you can try to deny your language as English derivative.
