It could be acceptable under extreme circumstances, but I am firmly against any state doing it in this day and age. People who are for it simply don't understand what that would do...you think it is bad now? Try letting your broke state be its own country.

I voted it could be acceptable, only because the question is so open ended. Yes, there are circumstances where the split up of the United States would be acceptable. None of those scenarios exist today, nor do I see any of those scenarios existing in the very near future. But, yes, it is possible that it might one day be a good idea.

That means in 2010 you had a 1 in 23,757 chance of being murdered, or 0.004% chance. So you had a 99.996% chance of not being murdered. Dangerous world out there, huh.

I believe that states have every right to secede. I can't say that I'm 100% sold on the idea of Texas leaving yet, but I can definitely say that our current government doesn't represent my ideals at all.

You do realize that you just shared nothing but your opinions right?

Yea I know lol. It would take a few paragraphs to get my true feeling expressed properly, so I decided to refrain from that. I just happened to read through this whole thread and couldn't help but respond to earthworm's comment (off topic on my part, I apologize) so I figured it was only right for me to make a comment that was related to the topic.

Any of the states is more than welcome to leave the Union as soon as both houses of their state legislature vote for secession and the other states vote to allow them to leave the Union.

Now see, that sounds reasonable there. And I would even go so far to say that if the state legislatures voted in favor of it, then there should be a vote by the people of that state as well to make sure the majority is in favor of that decision. If the state voted in favor of secession but the rest of the country didn't, then the option of going to war would come in to play. But when a person makes a comment that "a state can't leave the union without a war", that sounds like a person that wants people to be suppressed and it's either "my way or the highway". Get over yourself, obviously there are people in this country that have completely opposing views and If you feel the need to forcefully impose your views on someone else, then you're part of the problem in this politically corrupt nation.

Seems a bit pointless since no state wanting secede would ever meet all of those requirements. And I guess the idea of a state seceding is acceptable to you since you believe that the attempt would be for good reasons and not bad ones. What if Communist's were behind the drive for secession?
