I doubt the resignation has to do with Benghazi. Plus he can still be called to Congress. Which I doubt he would take the 5th and not appear.

Although, I would Note that with the trial of General Sinclair. That Sinclair has stated if he was going down so were others too. Which does bring me to the point of noticing that Several Leading Generals that are Republican have been removed from command or have been in the news with some issue. McChrystal, Sinclair, Couple of other TOP Flag Officers as well.

Moreover has anyone got word why Rear Admiral Gaouette was pulled from our Battle Carrier Strike Group in the ME? As I have hear he has been accused of inappropriate leadership judgement. Which I would have to question this charge being thrown at the Admiral. As well as some charges that have been thrown at some Generals.
 
He blew his clearance. He had no choice. He had to resign. It is really that simple.

Second, what does this have to do with Benghazi? He can still be compelled to testify before Congress. And now that he has resigned he would even have less motivation to lie.

I am not seeing how this is anything other than the age old story of a powerful man getting caught cheating on his wife.

If he was going to make up a story to resign, it would be someting to embarrass anyone in his family, especially his wife in front of the entire world.

I don't think that's true. I think people can testify even if they're not the CIA director. Pretty sure.

I agree. The story we're getting is the sanitized version. No doubt he acted like a lemming in heat with this gal after she broke up with him. It wasn't the affair . . . it's what he did afterwards. I heard this morning on the radio that he'd sent her thousands of emails...waxing about their ended relationship...talking about trysts in his office...stalking her...The FBI Has Been Investigating Petraeus Biographer Paula Broadwell - Business Insider

I think he can claim under questioning, unless it's closed doors "no response due to National Security". Meaning we may never know what really happened and who's responsible for Benghazi, if anyone. The gov (dems & repubs) wouldn't like this to leak that a Director was blowing his clearance or being unavailable for consult anyway, makes them look incompetent. But they would bounce him out for good reason by asking for a timely resignation to cover the situation.

To late Petraeus was the one that Ordered the CIA timeline be released even though Team Obama wanted him to Wait until after Clinton 's so called Independent Investigation. So anything that was put with the Time line can be answered. Also CNN has stated Petraeus could be summoned to Congress under subpenoa. Not that he will but that he could.

How can the 'admin' stop him from testifying about Benghazi if he is subpoeaned by the Republican witch hunters in Congress? I'd love to hear the answer to that one.

Do you guys all get together and come up with conspiracy theories in which Obama is the bad guy, or do you arrive at these theories all on your own?

There are countless possible explanations for why one of the most powerful people in the world resigned from his position as Director of the CIA. Do you believe the only one that could be true is the one the media shared with us?

the 'media' didn't share it with us. That's what he stated in his letter of resignation. Since, aside from this apparent indiscretion, he has a long history of honorable service to his country, I choose to take him at his word until something else is proven. I choose not to engage in conspiracy theories.

You must think quite highly of the General to think he would destroy his reputation just to "protect" the Obama administration.
The CIA was supposed to be in charge of security in Benghazi by the way.
