    New York City Marathon Cancelled

Was it the right decision to make to cancel the marathon in NYC this weekend?

Given the fact that they had 2 large generators for their press tent that could have been used elsewhere, yes.

All of the runners could volunteer this weekend to provide help where needed, which would provide a way to pay back the city.

Re: New York City Marathon Cancelled

The news yesterday was showing rows of pallets full of food for the runners. Heated tents. Hotels were kicking people out who had no place to go because the marathon runners were coming and had reservations. Huge generators were in place for power for the marathon. It was quite sad to see that then have the media shift to showing people going through dumpsters looking for food and anything else that might make their daily lives easier for the foreseeable future.

I think the right choice was made to cancel the marathon.

Hopefully any and all resources for the marathon can now be directed to the people in need around the NYC area.

It should've been canceled a while back so that the athletes wouldn't have had to travel to New York

It would be something if it was kept on schedule to get more resources there then canceled at the last moment. For example the generators brought in for the marathon are now available.

Let's see..... hundreds of runners being given water to pour all over themselves because they're hot.... running by apartment buildings full of people in the middle of mass devastation who have no water to drink? Not a hard decision.

Re: New York City Marathon Cancelled

It was the wrong time to cancel. If you are going to cancel, do so before more than half the field has traveled to New York. I think it is the epitome of hypocrisy to cancel the Marathon because it is insensitive and turn around and praise the Knicks and the Giants for playing their games and "providing a release from the pain."

Absolutely the right decision. He should have done it earlier. Anything the athletes would have gotten can now be given to victims of the storm.
