How cold can you possibly be?

What if they can't move on? Their entire lives have been destroyed. No home, no job, etc. Honestly, what do you expect them to do? :crazy3:

pretty clearly he expects them to die/starve/have to sell their children into slavery to survive:cuckoo:

There is a lot of help already out there?!?!!?!They can find a job or hang out with family/friends for a little bit till they get back on their feet or go to a shelter, seek assistance, join an organization, move, find other kinds of government assistance, make friends, be an active member in the community, try to rebuild and help others rebuild, organize,etc.. The world sucks sometimes, but those are the best moments for you to pull through on your own so you can become stronger.

Just because their house is gone? Im sorry but there is tons of assistance and opportunities out there already. If they didn't have insurance, it is their own fault for taking a gamble. It's not like these people are without help.
If we are talking strictly houses here, these people can definitely afford to live in an apartment/ or rent/etc. elsewhere till they get back on their feet.

should we raise taxes to do this? or add to our ever escalating national debt?

The reason why modern countries don't really "need" help as much as developing countries do is good management of money. There is always an emergency disaster relief fund in place and I bet my marbles the US has one too. What obama and bloomberg have to do is to take better care of how they spend their money. For one, it would be nice if the NYC oil crisis would subside. it has been going on for a few days.

also developed/modern economies tend to not be corrupt to the core like many developing economies, particularly in africa/carribbean/etc. so, the money actually goes to doing what it needs to do, instead of lining the pockets of whichever officials are incharge of it.
