Your logic fails because you equate the united states to pakistan.

Again perceived civility is irrelevant. We wouldn't tolerate another nation dropping a bomb on a suspect and innocent bystanders in our own country, heck we wouldn't tolerate even our own government dropping a bomb on a suspect and innocent bystanders in our country. This amounts to dropping a bomb on a suspected gang member, bank robber and some other suspect and innocent bystanders.

I am pretty sure criminals in our own country are a bigger threat to us than terrorists on the other side of the globe are.

Your logic fails because you think countries you perceive to be uncivilized or less civilized should have not right to sovereignty and that it should be alright to bomb suspects and surrounding innocent bystanders in those countries without even declaring war or having a trial for the people bombed.

Re: Should it be okay for other nations to send drones into your country to kill or s

I would say another country flying drones in US would be an act of war. Course to be consistant...

Re: Should it be okay for other nations to send drones into your country to kill or s

I think if they can't control the terrorists in their own country, and they pose a threat to us, we have every right to defend ourselves by going after those terrorists.

Like I said, there are vast areas of Pakistan that the government doesn't even control. The military and the police don't even go out there. They are tribal areas and breeding grounds for terrorists.

So Pakistan's government doesn't control it, they won't even go out there, but we're not allowed to take out a terrorist who is camped out there? Please.

If I used your definition of defending yourself then it would be alright for me to shoot some guy in some other state as well as innocent bystanders because he may or may drive down to my state and rob my house.

This amounts to letting France drop a bomb on an alleged gang member's house here in the US.

Re: Should it be okay for other nations to send drones into your country to kill or s

No it doesn't, because you can't compare the USA to Pakistan. There are no parts of the USA where the government doesn't have control. There are no parts of the USA where rebels run around with heavy arms, refusing to pay taxes, and instituting their own form of religious law on the local population.

It's like if David Koresh (David Koresh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) had been able to take over the entire city of Waco Texas. Say the gov of the United States were too weak to do anything about it, so he ran the city with his own rules. Now, say he allowed people to train there, to take off from there, to go in to Mexico and murder people.

Would Mexico have the right to drop bombs on David Koresh if the USA couldn't? You bet.

That's what this is. The reason I say the USA is not Pakistan is because the USA is strong. David Koresh was taken the **** out by the FBI.

And don't forget, Pakistan harbored Osama Bin Laden. As far as I am concerned, that is an act of war. They have no place to whine about a few drone strikes on areas of the country they can't control.

You might want to read the rest of what I wrote, then, and if I can answer any questions for you in order to clarify my position, I'd be happy to do that.

I read it, I still don't think it justifies killing of innocents.

Nobody wants innocent people to die. 9/11 was a terrible tragedy where many innocent Americans died.

Wait, what does this have to do with 9/11? I was talking about the innocent people, many times children, who are killed by drones.

Re: Should it be okay for other nations to send drones into your country to kill or s

I believe the drones are targeting terrorists, not children. Terrorists like the ones who were behind 9/11.

I think it's sad that innocent people die alongside the terrorists, but our leaders have the unenviable position of having to weigh that against the very real possibility that another 9/11 could occur.

That's just too dangerously absolute for me.

This was a decision by the government, mind you, no one voted for this, and regardless of whether Romney or Obama take office next year, it will continue. Who knows what will be "justifiable" next.

Re: Should it be okay for other nations to send drones into your country to kill or s

I think it's far from absolute, unfortunately. It's a sad and undeniable fact that innocent people die whenever the US takes military action. It's a very gray area of morality whether it's justified in order to keep Americans safe.

I think it needs to be looked at on a case-by-case basis. One thing I can say for certain is that you and I are not privy to all the facts that would lead us to make informed decisions. We just have to hope that the men and women we have elected will make the right calls on the ground.

There isn't much else we can do about it.

America is a great nation that has grown strong under policies such as the Monroe Doctrine. I don't think the Supreme Court has ever struck down the Monroe Doctrine. Thus we have the right to take military action in other countries when it benefits us.

So using the best possible judgment with the optimally selected weapons, i.e. reduced and low collateral damage and death, is sad compared to the alternatives? Please, your alternative is what?

My alternative to absolutistist violence? Well, it is probably unrealistic considering the state if things, but there's gotta be a point where we stop thinking like this. It makes me and others afraid of my country's governmernment. Its just a depressing situation.

"Absolutist violence?" You mean hyper-accurate weapons for targeting small groups of murderers at a time is "absolutist?" Rather than use huge bombs that destroy whole groups of Taliban, we target only the leaders and you consider that "absolutist?"

What exactly do you expect to do against an enemy that does things like this?

(bold is mine)
A 14-year old Pakistani activist who championed education for girls has been shot in the head by a Taliban gunman.

The attack on Malala Yousafzai, who became famous for highlighting Taliban atrocities, happened as she sat in a bus preparing to leave the school grounds in Mingora, the main city in the Swat valley which was the scene of intense fighting between the army and the Taliban in 2009.

At least one other girl was also hurt in the attack on Tuesday that a Taliban spokesman, Ehsanullah Ehsan, quickly claimed the group was responsible for.

He said the teenager's work had been an "obscenity" that needed to be stopped: "This was a new chapter of obscenity, and we have to finish this chapter."

Re: Should it be okay for other nations to send drones into your country to kill or s

Would you be okay with other nations sending drones into your country to kill or spy on people? I decided to come up with this poll question because I have been thinking for awhile about how our government sends drones into Pakistan to kill people that if I was the citizens of that country the Pakistani politicians who gave the okay for such a thing would be getting lynched and publicly executed for allowing such a breach of sovereignty for the civilian causalities those drone strike sometimes cause.

Should it be okay for other nations to send drones into your country to kill and or spy on people?

Yes
No
I do not know

No. We should just invade the whole country like Bush did. There is nothing like "shock and awe" to win over a countries hearts and minds.
It is not fair to just kill those that want to kill us. We need to send our young men as targets and recruiting aids for Alqeada
Look how well our prosthetic industry has done since we invaded Iraq. Drones are hurting the production and sales of artificial legs.

Re: Should it be okay for other nations to send drones into your country to kill or s

This whole argument is based on a false equivalency.

It's tantamount to asking "Should it be okay for someone to lock you in a cell against your will?" and then using that to suggest that it's unfair that we do exactly that to, say, rapists.

A question that isn't such a misrepresentation of the situation in AfPak might be: Is it ok for the US military to defend itself against Taliban targets that are launching/supporting attacks in Afghanistan against our troops and then retreating across the Durrand Line to the shelter of Pakistan sovereignty, while Pakistan itself is unwilling/unable to stop such occurrences?

Re: Should it be okay for other nations to send drones into your country to kill or s

How many of these terrorist and innocent bystanders killed by those drones have actually killed Americans? I am pretty sure that gang members and other criminals have taken more American lives that terrorists have, but no one is suggesting that we should send in predator drones to the neighborhoods they live in to bomb them and the surrounding homes.

We have options with criminals on our own soil. If we know where a suspected gang member/murderer is, our police go knock on the front door and take him into custody. If that were an option in Pakistan I'd be all for it.

The questions that are left open for you are: Who is "we"? And some detail on thinking like what? Let me give you my answers. Everyone is we. This includes they. And, any member of we (generally called they) can force the others of we to act in a way we don't want to, e.g. use drones.
