I hear this so often, but tell me, where were Herman Caine's black voters?

You resent that Obama gets a connection with certain voters because of his ethnicity or background? Name me one president who didn't.

I can't wrap my brain around someone being so cavalier about a right that Americans have died for, that cities have burned for, that we all agree is what keeps our democracy the best in the world.

What would be the payoff for not voting, apart from indulging an impulse to be lazy?
    The payoff?
Because no matter who I vote for, most specifically in federal elections, my state will vote red.
    It doesn't matter.

It's an emotional investment, with no real return.
We don't have a democracy, it's a democratic republic, with many/most of it's participants that are particularly ignorant.

Someone who doesn't vote at least does no damage. Single-issue voters actively push bad government on everyone else.

Do we really need to bankrupt our country, put up with apology tours, and inch closer to communism so that gays can marry? For example.
I don't happen to know any GLBT people or supporters I consider to be single-issue voters. I've only seen this phenomena twice: once about abortion and the other time about Castro and maintaining the boycott on Cuba.

In fact, a few of my GLBT friends are intensely conservative and are usually annoyed with me for placing as much weight as I do on social justice.

My state is up for grabs, but not my city. To be in the GOP in Cleveland politics is to be the invisible man -- in 2010, the local GOP never even bothered to put up a candidate for my county District Attorney -- and that's after half or more of all Cleveland-area politicians were arrested by the FBI on public corruption charges.

    I feel your pain, Harry.

Re: Who Is The Crappiest American?

Voting for someone just because of their race is stupid whether we're talking about blacks voting black or whites voting white.

I'll quote Martin Luther King: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

When 96% of black voters cast their ballot for Obama, it suggests he was getting votes due to the color of his skin, and it's evidence that we're a long way from achieving Dr. King's dream.

Get back to me when a black conservative like Herman Caine attracts a solid black voting bloc.

Blacks are not supporting Obama because he's black; they're supporting him because he is far more liberal than Romney -- and a significant number of black voters are so peeved at Obama, they won't vote for him.

You seem to view your fellow American as an ass with too little brain power to form reasoned judgments about his own best interests and the nation's. I'd say the only fixed idea at work here is yours, Peter.

It was just an example. Single issue voters suck no matter what the issue.

Actually the one I see most often is young people who voted for Ron Paul due to his stance on legalizing marijuana. That is just stupid.

I've never been a huge fan of single issue voters -- but at least they vote.

It's not pain, but more of "I'm not going to be associated with people who make ignorant choices."
If "the people" want to delude themselves, why should I try to stop them.

When I go to work, with people I generally respect on a professional level, to hear their political opinions, it just annoys me how little they know and how little investment of time they put into understanding issues.
They take too much for granted and form political opinions based on these untruths.
This assessment is not a right or left one, but it encompasses people on both sides of the spectrum.

Are you really saying that Obama's 96% support by black voters in 2008 had nothing to do with the fact that he was to become the first black president?
